VGH: End of Round 2 summary post.
Well, as I said, here it is, the text version of the End of Round 2 summary. This recap will differ slightly from the podcast, as I am also going to include the normal nightly recap of the first 2 Quarterfinal battles. In this post, I am recapping Days 48 and 49. So, away we go.
Round 2, as I expected, was where we'd see a drop in the votes, and as a result, there were a number of upsets. Some characters that were really long shots ended up advancing--like Goliath, who beat Goku by 1 vote. Who'd thought the character from Gargoyles would win over a character from a very popular anime? Regardless, a number of you did so well in Round 1, that hopefully it would carry on. For some, it did. For some...it really didn't. Nibelheim and Time have been the 2 divisions where most of us have done well. As we get into the Shadow Moses and Mutant Divisions, things look rather sloppy--several upsets, and a lot of 0s. One of the highlights of the round was such that Brie was carrying a 16 battle win streak going into the Mutant Division, to which it came to a grinding halt...many goose eggs there. In the Time Division, there were only 2 battles in which EVERYONE predicted the same character to win...everyone chose Link and Sonic to win their respective battles.
Round 2 also saw a lot of lead changes between Eyes, Saya, and C&T--the same 3 wackos who were fighting for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd going into Round 2. This time, it carried all the way through the 2nd round, with any one person only managing to hold on the lead for a couple of days, at best. I think Saya or C&T held it for the longest in the 2nd round, 8 or 9 days, something like that. We ended the round strongly, though--most everyone got the last 2 battles correct, with Spider-Man and Psylocke winning their battles over the last two ninja turtles. Both battles ended with a 13-1 victory for the winners. Now the stakes are higher, and so, the points are raised.
We began the Quarterfinals strongly--good vote turnout, and nearly everyone chose Cloud to win--20 of you picked him--over Liu Kang. However, the Frog/Cecil battle was a close one. 8 of you picked Frog, making him the favorite. CECIL WON. Cecil won by 2 votes, the winning votes coming on FW. The LJ poll was tied. So, 5 of you benefited from Cecil's victory. It will be Cloud vs. Cecil in the first battle of the Semifinals. Eyes was the one that took the most points, taking 150 out of 200. Had I been playing, I would've taken the full 200, and I'd currently be in 1st by 225 points. As I'm not, it is Joshie who holds on to a slim 25 point lead. Here's how the rest of the Quarterfinals will look (any of you wanting to submit fan art, here you go):
Nibelheim:
--Aerith vs. Dart (in progress)
--Locke Cole vs. Sora (in progress)
Time:
--Link vs. Samus
--Fox vs. Sonic
--DK vs. Yoshi
--Mario vs. Luigi
Shadow Moses:
--Solid Snake vs. Dante
--Shadow vs. Bond
--The Boss vs. Leon Kennedy
--Jill Valentine vs. Master Chief
Mutant:
--Wolverine vs. Goliath
--Batman vs. Superman
--Storm vs. Cyclops
--Spider-Man vs. Psylocke
Nibelheim Semifinal: Cloud vs. Cecil
All righty, onto the detailed leaderboard. This will include a full rundown--next to your name, I shall post your win-loss record and your current win-lose streak (if you have more than 1). These standings will include the 2 battles that just ended, whereas the podcast only covered to the end of Round 2. NOTE: If you see that your win-loss record is higher than a person who is above you, don't panic. The reason lies in the partial points--if a person above you has less wins than you, it is because that person had more FULLY correct picks, which meant full points as opposed to your partial points.

There ya go. Now we'll move onto the records. No one broke any records this round, but I'm impressed at the Most Consecutive Battles Lost record--the record this contest is only 9 battles, held by CrystalGuardian. That's not bad at all, compared to Cooper, who has the overall at 81.
Finally, something I didn't do on the podcast because I didn't have the info--time to see if any of your predicted champions have been eliminated. At the end of Round 1, all of you still had them in play. Let's see if it changed.
--Lucca, beaten by Frog, Nibelheim Round 2.
--Big Boss, beaten by Shadow, Shadow Moses Round 2.
19 of you still have your predicted champs in play. Pretty good.
And a final note--the FAQ link has now been fixed, it's in the VGH board on FW.
All right, everyone, that does it for this summary post. Everyone, good luck, as we move into the final 3 weeks of the contest. If my schedule holds true, VGH ends on March 21st. Keep on voting!
See ya tomorrow.
