Apparently, I just can't seem to be having a good day at work. I've been there only 8 days, and I've only had 1 good day...the others, marred. I go in smiling, and come out feeling like shit. Funny, though--it isn't customers getting me angry; it's management.

In the latest round of me getting treated like garbage, I find out that in 3 weeks, I have a schedule of 4 12-9 shifts, and 1 8-5 shift. One of them is arranged so that I work a closing shift one day and then have to open the next day. That's a major scheduling no-no. Not only do I have a closing shift followed by an opening shift (which means that I come home from work, sleep, go right back to work), but I'm being scheduled for hours beyond my frame of availability. In 2 weeks, I have 2 closing shifts, and I questioned Laurie (the dept. manager of Photo, who also does scheduling for us) on it. "You have no choice," she tells me. 2 people are taking off those days, and so she needs someone to close. I got the closing shift.

So, I ask, why did they even bother having me fill out an associate availability sheet if they're just going to schedule me for whenever?

And someone answer me this: what happens to people as they move up the promotional ladder? Most management begins at the peon level...what happens to their good nature and their kindliness toward others as they move up? Where on the ladder do they lose that quality and become assholes? The only explanation I can think of is that it's a power trip.

I came into this place with high hopes. I was hired as a full-time associate. In EVERY other place of business, 40 hours is full time. Anything less is part time. Wal-Mart? 34. Don't ask me how or where that one came from. Instead, I come here, and I get scheduled for 32 hour weeks. They don't have enough hours to give everyone 40 because my boss decided to hire someone to fill the gap I was supposedly going to fill just before I arrived. They're overstaffed. I worked in Falmouth, where I was treated with kindness and caring by everyone--associates and management included. Here...nothing. Management are assholes, and I've met some nice associates. So, the job hunt is still on, I have to get back to Cingular, and apply to Best Buy later today.

Check still hasn't come. Rich is getting a call today. I may also have a nice argument with management about being scheduled beyond my availibilty. Personally, I would have liked to have been asked if I could work the shifts before just being scheduled and expecting me to work out of my availibility.

Ahh, well. Once I'm out of there, then I shall burn the vest and cut up my discount card. I won't shop there again.

Anyway, time to get ready for work. b
