The Over-Achiever Bandit strikes again!
Friday, 1 July 2005 23:09Ladies and gentlemen of the jury...(who's now short 1 because Sandra Day O'Connor quit the Supreme Court)
The paycheck mayhem FINALLY came to an end. I got my paycheck from Falmouth, cashed it, ran like Mario across 9W to the bank, ran like Mario back across 9W to Wal-Mart, and now rent will be paid tomorrow. However, the actions leading up to it were quite interesting.
Around 3, just before lunch, I went back to Personnel to see if the mail arrived. And so, we went for a walk all through receiving. Mail could be found in 4 places. We looked. Nothing. Now, I had to think, since I was beginning to think that the check hadn't arrived; do I want to wait 1 day and hope the check arrives, or take the sure bet and ask for a pay advance? If I took the pay advance, it'd mean that my next paycheck would be deducted by the amount I was advanced; waiting a day would hopefully have the check arrive, and if it didn't, a call to the Department of Labor would be in order.
During my lunch, I called Rich, and he was absolutely positive that he mailed out the check early in the week. He marked the envelope with "attn: Jay." Jay is our store manager. So, thinking the check hadn't arrived, I decided that rent NEEDED to be paid. So, I went to Jay first, asking if he got anything. He said no, but he'd let me know if my check arrived. 5 minutes later, I went to personnel again, and decided I wanted a pay advance. We go back to Jay--
--and he gives me my paycheck. Since Wal-Mart already took back its funds that it gave me, this shiny piece of paper with big numbers on it was all mine to keep. Very briefly, only for a second, did I feel like hugging him. It went away just as fast. I also felt, also very briefly, like calling Rich and professing my love to him. Again, faded just as fast.
So, cashed it in Wal-Mart, deposited it, went in immediately, and now I am paying rent tomorrow.
Came home, ate, had some fun sex. Oh, fun!
So, the final tally--16 people entered the SSM contest. For the next few days, I shall be downloading pics of the various fighters. Then, on July 6, we begin with the opening battles. And so, my dear LJ readers, for the next 2 months or so, you shall be seeing polls every day. Vote on them!
Now, I just hope my happiness carries through the weekend. I may be feeling bitter this weekend...as you know, I was supposed to go on vacation today, that camping trip and the James Taylor concert thing that Wal-Mart denied me from going on. I'll try to keep the feelings at bay, but if you see me with some stinging sarcasm about work and life this weekend, you'll know why.
April's brother, Ryan, will be here this weekend. This should be interesting.
Speaking of plans and not botching them, we need to start finalizing our RenFaire plans, Carolyn, Dan, Sara, whoever else.
All right. Gaming awaits.
Oh, and April, you wanted the link to the famed "oh, panic! PANIC!" entry: http://www.livejournal.com/users/robkaiote/403043.html
Nighty night, all.
