The kicker of puppies, part 2.
Thursday, 10 May 2007 22:29As I said, went to the Hudson Valley Mayfaire last Sunday, and enjoyed it muchly. Still tweaking a bit with the pics, as I used my cheap-o Kodak EasyShare, and have to adjust for brightness. Some of the pics look washed out. Shanti, the pics of you in the henna art on your face--gorgeous. The ones from Mohonk will be up on the DA and Mad Squirrel this weekend (hopefully), unless burning all of April's Doctor Who episodes monopolizes my computer for the entire weekend.
I realized that this overtime that began over 2 months ago has made me put on even more weight, and this has to stop. Someone of my height should not be hovering close to 200 pounds. Funny. I don't look it at all. The problem lies in the overtime--working 10 hour days, and when we come home, neither of us wants to cook, so we end up ordering in...usually to the tune of pizza and subs, or going out to eat. This must change. So, I've begun using DDR as workout material as opposed to just play, and I've discovered that 30 minutes of DDR on light mode nets me a burn of nearly 300 calories, or the equivalent of nearly jogging 3 miles. So I'm gonna start with that every other day, and eventually build up from there. Summer's approaching, and I'm hoping to get outside after work. But this weight gain must stop. Such is an obstacle of being an office worker...right now, I'm bored out of my mind.
So, I've begun taking steps to eventually get myself out of data entry, but all the while maintaining a State job and all the benefits therein. A recent position based on the civil service exam I took (and did well on) last February has opened up...
...at the Department of Environmental Conservation...
...in New Paltz.
THINK ABOUT IT.
If I get this position, that will most likely mean that April and I will move to New Paltz (or thereabouts). On a salary of $36,000 a year to start. If April and I managed (barely, but rent still was ON TIME every month) in Kingston on a COMBINED income of under $20,000 for the 1 year we were there, then it'll certainly be easier the second time around. So, I sent my resume to the DEC, and now the ball is in their court. They're still taking applications and resumes until tomorrow, I believe, so I may not hear back for a while yet.
Still, I'm not going to get my hopes up quite yet. I wouldn't mind an interview, though.
I'd love to go back to NP not just to live...but I started college there, I'd love to finish it there. With a major in Photo.
In other news, overtime looks to be coming to an end in 2 or so weeks, and on the 17th, April and I go to Cape Cod for 4 days to visit my family--my sister turns 17, my stepdad's birthday is also that weekend, along with prom for my sis. Also, contest signups are coming up. Thanks for your preliminary votes so far. Here they are again, in case you haven't voted. If you have, you won't be able to vote again.
( Preliminary character voting continues here for all consoles. )
Also, going to see Dave Matthews Band at SPAC on August 14!
But now, off to bed. Dan H is here tomorrow for the weekend, looking forward to that.
Nighty night, all.
