What a great time last night at SPAC. Went to my first real concert (A Prairie Home Companion doesn't count, in my opinion), and it was AWESOME. Seeing the Dave Matthews Band live is an experience all on its own. Of course, from where Annie and I were (on the lawn, way the fuck on top of the hill, as that was all that was left when we got there). The concert was sold out, and so I expected a massive sea of bodies. I was far from disappointed. Not only was every seat in the amphitheater sold out (5200 seats), but the lawn itself can hold an additional 20,000. Needless to say, a majority of the crowd was standing for the entire time. Also, the pot and cigarettes were abound. I don't think I inhaled too much oxygen there. Didn't get buzzed as Annie thought (I'm battle hardened, you see. Living with a joint for a stepbrother raises your pot tolerance), but I knew I'd have to shower out the smell the next day.
The concert itself didn't start till around 8:20, which was good. There was an opening act before DMB, which we missed completely. We didn't get there until 7:40--ended up in the parking lot farthest from the stage, and then we had to walk across several holes of a golf course (SPAC is inside Saratoga State Park; the park also houses a golf course) before finally getting in 20 minutes later. It was nearly 3 hours of music after that. It was a mellow concert, Annie and I agreed. A good half of the songs performed I wasn't even familiar with--I know that most of those unfamiliar songs came from their most recent studio album, which I've listened to completely all of once. I also know that they are working on a new studio album as well, so there may have been a few songs that haven't been released. There were some concert favorites, like Warehouse (which went on for about 20 minutes), Lie in our Graves (another 20 minutes), Stay (Wasting Time), and Too Much (about 10 minutes). And then, of course, they played one of my favorite songs as the final song of the encore, last song of the night--All Along the Watchtower. The complete set list, in order:
Pantala Naga Pampa
Rapunzel
You Might Die Trying
Rhyme And Reason
Hunger For The Great Light
#27
Warehouse
The Idea Of You
Corn Bread
Lie In Our Graves
Some Devil
The Maker
Louisiana Bayou
Shotgun
Crush
Sweet Up and Down
Anyone Seen The Bridge
Too Much
Stay (Wasting Time)
Encores:
Gravedigger
American Baby Intro
All Along the Watchtower
Fantastic performance, I think I must go back next year if and when they return. Next time, I may take Brie with me, she loves DMB as well.
Got home at 1 AM, went to bed, and I think I remember April kissing me before she went off to work. Annie and I got up somewhere between 10:30 and 11, chatted, played some video games (she now enjoys Wii Bowling. I win again), and she left around 1, heading back home to reality and her boy. Thanks, Annie, for coming up and taking me to see DMB. We've been wanting to do it for years now, and we finally had the chance to. Hope you had an awesome time.
So, I'll enjoy the rest of my day off: gaming, folding and putting away laundry, and overall loafing. Tomorrow, back to work, with an insensitive jerk for a boss. But that's another LJ post, and another rant altogether.
In 2 and a half weeks: RENFAIRE! WITH THE GANG FROM RAMAPO AND NP!
Contest resumes tonight.
But now, food.
