At noon in the morning...
Tuesday, 1 April 2008 20:32There we have it, ladies and gentlemen. As I type this, I am now hearing the first thunderstorm of the spring rolling in. Funny thing, thunderstorms--when I was a little kid, I used to be deathly afraid of them. Now I love them. I still am on a quest to capture a lightning bolt on film. Tricky stuff, but I'll get it one of these days. So now, some random blurbs of thought as to my life in the past few days...
So in recent news, portrait studio job is ending this weekend, although last weekend could very well have been my last weekend. As the studio is about to convert to digital photography (tomorrow, actually), I was told by my boss that there stands a good chance that I may not even be present for this final weekend, as it would be useless to train me on new stuff if I'm only going to be there for 1 more weekend anyway. Doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I did enjoy the job, and got some good experience out of it. Nature photography, however, wins emphatically. Nature won't shit on you (well, that might not be entirely true), drool, spit, be picky, or demand refunds. It was a good 4 months there, though. And soon, with my weekends back, my first free weekend consists of April's birthday weekend. Excellent fun there.
In the meantime, with April (the month) here, I did my taxes, and as it turned out, all that overtime I worked last year came back to bite me in the ass...I ended up owing the Feds some money (a whopping $27, shocking, I know), but I got money back from NY. Weird. And in addition to that $600 that Bush is giving everyone, I still get back a little over $700 all told. Not complaining there.
The portraits that Kristin, April, and I took while Kris was here are in, I have to get them tomorrow and see how they turned out.
With Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and soon Mario Kart Wii coming out, I'm thinking that I'm gonna have to get a better form of broadband. Basic DSL is starting not to cut it anymore. I may simply move to Time Warner's service, in which I can get phone, TV, and Internet all in one shot.
I also may consider upping my LJ to a paid account, because I want those damn 100 userpics. I have a DVD player on my computer, I can make LJ icons with screencaps.
I'm currently playing an awesome RPG for the PS1 called Parasite Eve...which I can only call it Resident Evil in RPG form, and even that's not the best description. You may need to brush up on your high school biology for this one, as the plot is so science and biology-laden. It's awesome.
So I'm going to a couple of games in Yankee Stadium and one game in Fenway Park this summer. I am also going to see DMB up at SPAC once again this summer. I still need to get tickets to Prairie Home, James Taylor, and Film Night (these three shows at Tanglewood).
I put up two new images on my DeviantArt, the first ones since January 6th (the two nude pics of April). Check them out: Of Valentine's Importance and Shagadelic Coke
Speaking of photography, I purchased a Canon Powershot A720, but it ended up going back to Amazon. It works fine, it's an awesome camera, but it was missing the one feature I bought the thing for (which I then found out last night that the previous model, the A710, has the color accent feature that Canon decided to remove for its NEWER MODEL). Once I get that back, then I'll buy the A710. Also, this camera will be heavily used at places like the RenFaire. Even though it was great the first two years with my 35mm SLR, I came to realize a couple of things: one, after taking a combined 30+ rolls of film, the pics begin to look the same; and two, I look really silly in full costume when I have a big, bulky SLR dangling around my neck. If I'm going to have something around my neck, it'll be a necklace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (as pirates are considered the high holy beings of Pastafarianism). The little Canon will be good for carrying around. However, the SLR is coming with me to the Cape this August when I play the wedding photographer at Michelle's wedding. (squee!)
Finally, for the Battle Royal prizes: Joshie, you're going to get yours this week; Saya, you'll get it in 2 weeks. Have to space out the dollars here.
And I think that's all I have to report, really. Because now my stomach is asking for food.
