Two weeks later, and people are still asking me at work how April is faring at her new job. Not that I mind, since now the inquiries have gone from a line at my cubicle to a trickle. And so far, she likes it. Especially since I now know that her office sometimes just takes half a day and goes out to lunch. And now I'm jealous. We don't get to do that at the Lottery, whereupon we just take half a day to go to some restaurant and then go play. That's ok, though. That just means April and I are going to said restaurant and arcade later today. Teehee.
Rather than have you read about my boring work week, I'll just jump to yesterday. Yesterday, April and I had planned to go to Bennington, VT--it's a wonderful little place, and it's a short drive from here. However, we came to find out that many of the parks near Bennington (where we wanted to day hike, and for myself, take pics) are open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day (or Labor Day in some cases). The sites were not clear as to if that season was just for campgrounds or the park itself. However, we have a very nice state park right here that I'd never been to, and that April kept telling me about--Thatcher Park. And so, we went there instead, and what a great time we had. I blew off a couple rolls of film (a frog posed for me!), we had a nice hike, and then we went to Thompson's Lake State Park, near Thatcher Park, and went to the Nature Center. Fucking gorgeous...and at the Nature Center, there were a series of bird feeders, and there April and I got to watch the show that were the birds. I'm hoping those pics came out. I'll find out today when I get them developed. We left just in time, just as the rain began to come, and headed over to April's parents'. We caught them as they were leaving for their anniversary dinner, and so April and I went to Friday's. We came home, and it seemed only fitting that such a wonderful day was going to be marred by a piece of mail.
Remember that speeding ticket I got last March as we went down to fetch Kristin? I finally got the bill for it YESTERDAY, of all days. It couldn't have come during the work week, oh, no. So for my bit of speeding, going 85 on the Thruway (speed limit of 65), I am fined $205. $150 is the actual fine, but then NY adds a $55 mandatory surcharge, which from what I understand, is a surcharge just for the sake of adding surcharges. I'm serious. Because the speeding fine money goes to the town that I committed the offense, the State wants a piece of it too. Hence the surcharge, which is really a "tax" in disguise. A tax of 33%. I know where a good chunk of my next paycheck is going. However, to clarify the surcharge, I'll call up Catskill Town Court and ask what it's all about.
But other than that, it was a great day yesterday. Speeding baloney aside, settled in, showered, then watched some MST3K while snarfing on some ice cream. Then it was bedtime, and that was that.
So vote on the Tournament of Champions battles!
I have the Food Network on TV right now, and here's your random line: brioche, baby, brioche. That should make all you bread whores happy.
