So I went down to the RenFaire last Saturday for the 3rd time this summer, mostly for the purpose of seeing and hanging out with Mary and James (for sadly, it may be the last time I see James for a while--he's moving down to God's Waiting Room Florida for a while). However, a Peter and Erica came along this trip, two people who'd never been to NYRF, and hopefully, two people who will make a return trip. Sometime early in the day, we got separated, leaving Erica and Peter to venture the Faire by themselves, while the remaining four stuck together. I bought a couple of feather roses for my hat, and I ended up buying Mary a "Kilt Inspector" pin (as James was wearing a kilt, so I could not pass up the innuendo...and neither could several shop staff). Hopefully James' kilt passed inspection. All in all, a great time was had. Pics from last Saturday have been added to my Photobucket. Sunday was my loafing day, and now it's work this week before I ditch the computer for 10 days and head out on a vacation.

This Friday, we head to Cape Cod, primarily for my first job doing wedding photography. Michelle ([livejournal.com profile] misha__chan) and her boy are having their wedding this Saturday, and I was asked to be the wedding photographer. Knowing full well I do mostly nature photography, and that I've never done weddings, and that the wedding will be an experiment for me, she still wanted me to take pics, so I will be gearing up for that fun. At least one other potential wedding job is in line, depending on the results of the pictures. One of my co-workers wants to see the results, and if they are good, I will most likely be asked to do another wedding. I do not intend to go into wedding photography as my career, because I think the unpredictability and unparalleled beauty of nature makes for far better subject material than weddings--plus, trees and animals don't talk back, haggle over money, or make you feel miserable because they can.

So I'll be on the Cape until next Wednesday, when April and I begin to meander our way back across Massachusetts, stopping in Old Sturbridge Village, then spending a few days camping in the Berkshires before coming home, and then comes the fun of seeing the results of Michelle's wedding (as most of it will be done on film), as well as pics taken during the vacation. Combine that with the pictures that Kristin is taking during her current vacation in Ireland, I foresee a night or two of pic-sharing.

With all this talk of RenFaire, April and I are seriously thinking about doing a RenFaire wedding. Some posts ago I gave you links to what we want as our wedding outfits, and if you haven't read April's LJ recently, then I'll give you the short version--April's mom is throwing up objections to nearly everything we want for our wedding: she objects to our choice of clothing, the decision to have a Justice of the Peace, the fact that we don't want a Big Fat Catholic Wedding, and so on, so forth, et cetera, et cetera. This is becoming a case of the wedding that April's mom wants, instead of us, and it's beginning to piss me off. She had her wedding, so let me have mine. With any luck, this will be the ONLY wedding I ever have, so I want to enjoy it. Hell, my own stepfather suggested the idea of a pagan wedding, a handfasting ceremony. When THAT suggestion hit the ears of her Catholic mom and aunt, they nearly died laughing. Ah, well. If I keep getting lip from her mom about what WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE want for our wedding, I'll have to resort to vulgarity, and I really hope it doesn't come down to that. April's mom is really, really nice--boring and dull as hell, with no sense of adventure, but very nice, and I don't want to have to throw her the middle finger. So there's the short version.

And that's where we are in life. By the way, I uploaded new pics up in the usual spots: Mad Squirrel Photos, and my DeviantArt.

As for the next character battle contest, it is coming. Soon. But for now, I game.
