I am the lemon zester of destruction.
Thursday, 12 March 2009 18:59I'm very glad for the intelligent feedback that I got on my last LJ post, which was regarding stem-cell research and how I thought President Obama's decision was made of absolute win. If you missed it and/or would like to weigh in, read here. It shows that yes, there are people of faith who also see this as a positive move, and also shows just how controlling the media can be. Only presenting the extreme sides in any story makes it juicy, sells papers, and gets airtime. You'll never see the moderates: the people who are of a religious mindset who also think that this new science can lead to amazing things; or the non-believer, or even scientists themselves who have reservations about it all. These people of sort of the middle, center view will never be talked about on major news because they're not good enough to make it. They don't provide such a stark contrast like the two groups we hear about: the happy scientists and patients who are thrilled to bits going against the Catholics who vehemently oppose it solely on religious grounds. But it's very nice to know that even among my own friends, open-mindedness and clearheadedness remain.
I'm also glad this week is nearly over. Of course, when I've got a week of just work and no college (Sage is on spring break), the week flies by. I can't believe it's nearly Friday. If this was my normal college and work-laden week, I swear, it'd only be Tuesday. But there is a reward waiting at the end of this week...that reward is in New Paltz in the form of Resident Evil 5. April and I will be there this weekend...while I'll be there for the gaming to be had, April will be there just because she loves the place and the friends. Resident Evil is not one of her likes...most video games in general, actually. This is sad. Nearly 5 years we've been dating, I haven't gotten her to sit down and play through a Final Fantasy or anything. Then again, I don't want to get into her cheap British sci-fi shows like Sapphire and Steel, and also Blake's 7, so I guess we're even on that front.
But yes, New Paltz awaits this weekend, and then on St. Patrick's Day, I go back to class. The day after, I register for the fall semester, and then it's nothing until March 28, when
kilinka makes her return trip to the Northeast, and sees what the Capital area of New York looks like. Ooh. Schenectady. Albany. Woo. Not quite as glitzy and glamorous as Vegas might be (prostitution isn't legal here, unless you're a certain ex-Governor who, a year ago, was finally caught), but not as crazy.
And finally, my photo exhibit in the library of Albany Molecular Research International went up today, and will be there for the next 4 weeks. Hopefully, I get some people asking and inquiring about my photos. It's a limited sort of exposure--the facility is not really open to the public, so it's limited to the people who work for them, as well as any visitors who may be doing business there. However, the library's right next to the cafeteria, so it's in a heavily-trafficked area. At the end, if none of them end up being sold, I'll have 20 framed pics to sell. To see which pics went up, check out the AMRI Exhibit sub-gallery on my deviantART.
And that, as they say, is that. Time to do a bit of loafing.
