And an upset indeed--Gene from Metal Gear: Portable Ops knocks out the #3 seed, Major Zero, winning by a single vote--not a tiebreaker--on LJ. I've never played Portable Ops, so I can't say whether I thought it was a good game or if Gene was a worthy character, but to knock out the main antagonist of the entire Metal Gear series? Wow. However, 4 or 5 people actually benefitted from the upset, so, nicely done to those. To the other 10 or 11 of us, many at the top will get hit with their 2nd loss of the contest. Gene will be up against The Fury in the 2nd round, who won extremely easily over the other character from Portable Ops--Jonathan. So before we press onto the next couple of battles, I want to remind everyone that the first half of this contest ends this Friday night--Round 1 comes to an end, and with it, we'll take a weekend break, which is just as well, since many of us won't be around for the 4th of July/Independence Day weekend anyway. A halftime podcast will be recorded, so whoever wants in, let's talk and make plans. I've said all I've needed to tonight, so battle on.
