Back from the opening weekend of RenFaire, and back to reality once more. Poo.

I wasn't about to let the episodes of last Friday ruin my weekend--with more gauze up my ass, it was back to Sterlingshire, and the wonderful sense of familiarity and jocularity that I've come to love from this Faire. The place never gets old, no matter how many times I go to it--and I've been there a lot since my first trip there at age 11.

Our party consisted of Luc, Danielle, April, and I, and over the course of the weekend, we actually didn't see a whole lot of Luc and Danielle, having decided to go wander the Faire (which, I think, is the best way to enjoy it--not having a set plan or course of action can be a good thing sometimes).

Danielle had started the weekend renting a costume, but didn't end it that way, spending way too much money and getting a full outfit for herself--the dangers of Faire, you see. Leave someone alone at a Faire with some money and they just explode in a fit of insane glee! I purchased a waistcoat which came in handy on Sunday, when it was warmer and I didn't feel like wearing my jacket. April got a lovely silk skirt, and Luc also got some new pants for his costume.

April and I enjoyed seeing our usual performers--the Crimson Pirates, the Madrigals, Philip Hole (ta-da!), and Henry Martin, to name a few. We also got to see again the wandering minstrel, Eddie Jeff Cahill. Apparently, NYRF needs to have someone named Jeff who performs as a minstrel. Eddie Jeff is quite good, I think, but I also miss Jeff the Wandering Minstrel.

I also got to see two new shows--first, a trio of beautiful women brandishing swords who call themselves the "Vixens En Guarde." They performed a show which they called "Violent Delights," in which they perform three Shakespearean plays in the span of about 45 minutes--Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, and that Scottish play. A great, great show, all told--and quite hysterical. The second was "Cast in Bronze," in which it consists of a masked musician playing a carillon--a gigantic instrument that usually doesn't travel.

Much thanks to Dan H's parents for letting us use their home to crash--they practically begged us to stay there when we saw them at Tanglewood some time ago, so we accepted the invitation. We'll see about a possible return for Labor Day weekend.

I always hate leaving the Faire, and I eagerly await our next trip. However, I have our final trip to Tanglewood to look forward to this weekend: John Williams conducts the Boston Pops in "Film Night," in which Williams and the Pops perform film scores. In all honesty, though, the show should just be renamed as the Tribute to John Williams night, as most of the program ends up consisting of his own scores.

So there we go. Pics of the weekend are up on my Facebook.
