Of women, butterbeer, stairscooters and green cards.
Sunday, 9 January 2011 21:21So the first Januarymas weekend has come and gone; I kind of want this week to go by quickly so that the second and final weekend can get here, and with it, a legion of humanity. It's going to be very interesting packing this weekend's crowd in here like sardines, but we'll manage. April and I will be spending the week creating as much open floor space as possible to accommodate the mob.
While I anticipate a lot of fun ahead, this weekend was also very enjoyable. It was the smaller gathering; starting with the arrival of Danielle (
speccygeekgrrl), who arrived late--Amtrak continues its long-standing commitment to timely arrivals--and Nick later on Friday. We headed over to Friendly's, and we settled in for the night by watching the new HBO special from Robin Williams, Weapons of Self-Destruction. It's just as funny as it was when I first saw it on New Year's Eve--I think Danielle was in a slight bit of physical pain from laughing so hard. After, we watched the Doctor Who Christmas Special, and just for the record, I can't wait to see more of the 11th Doctor--Matt Smith plays him so well, and...yeah.
The four other lovely ladies--Nicki, Jesse, Sara (
musiclsaranader), and Shanna--arrived early Saturday afternoon, and after Nick and I glutted ourselves on Super Smash Bros. Brawl (in which I realized just how out of practice I am), geekery ensued. Mulled wine was had, and as the day became evening, we had a great meal and shared presents. Finally off the antibiotics that I had been on since my surgery in September, I could finally have alcohol again, and had a great-tasting butterbeer.
Nick, unfortunately, had to depart after dinner because he had work the next day, which then left me in the enviable position of being in an apartment full of beautiful ladies. Alas, I have nothing juicy to divulge, although I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the company. We watched an episode of MST3K (Santa Claus, which contains a devil who wears pantaloons, and an aggressively cute little girl), and after, a game of Apples to Apples was played, always a hit. By now, the hour was getting late; Danielle and April headed off to bed. Nicki, Jesse, Sara, Shanna and I played a game of Pictionary--which, by the way, is infinitely more fun when your drawing ability sucks. Stick figures and sheep are key to winning the game.
We closed out the night by watching the Robin Williams stand-up (since the other four hadn't seen it and wanted to watch it), and by the end, Jesse and I were the only ones left awake, trying desperately to stifle what would've been shrieks of hysterical laughter. With it now being around 4 AM, the night had finally come to a close, and I headed to bed.
Waking up late this morning, I made waffles for the assembled before taking Danielle back to the train station, where'd she catch her train home. It's always a pleasure to see her, and I did feel slightly sad seeing her board the train...but it's my hope that it won't be another year before we see each other again--lack of finances is no excuse, and my body better not fucking revolt on me again.
The remaining ladies left late in the afternoon, and with it, ended an enjoyable weekend. Thanks so much for coming, all...I hope it's not long before we hang out again. Much hugs and love to you.
But I think that me staying up till 4 AM and the six hours of sleep I got have caught up to me...it's an early night, and like it or not, I've five work days to go before we see the first guests of the 2nd Januarymas weekend.
Nighty night, all.
