A Robert Klein kind of day.
Thursday, 21 April 2011 22:29A real bit of good news on the Crohn's front, finally, with a bit of a sore ass to show for it.
So last night was spent in final preparation for today's colonoscopy. The final prep meant that all day yesterday, I was on a clear liquid diet, finally culminating in a deliberate laxative overdose. By overdose, I mean this--the doctor had me drink 238 grams of a powdered laxative, mixed in with 2 liters of Gatorade. To put this in perspective--I consumed 2 weeks' worth of laxative last night. You can only imagine how this ended.
Not having a particularly restful sleep, and now being thoroughly flushed out, I headed to the office, where my procedure was done. Unlike the first colonoscopy, where I have literally no memory of the procedure, I will remember this one. I was drifting in and out of consciousness on this one, but I could feel the probe and the air they shot into me. It wasn't painful, but it felt...odd. I now know what a bicycle tire feels like.
After it was all said and done, I was wheeled into recovery, and there I found out the good news--some of the inflammation and damaged intestine by Crohn's has in fact, healed, due to the new IV medication I've been on since last November. Some ulcerations are still present (as will always be the case), but there is clear evidence of healed tissue.
The meds are working. :) Healing is occurring. And continuing.
So, I took tomorrow off, as per doctor's orders (no driving, operating heavy machinery, signing legal documents, etc), and I'll spend the weekend recovering.
In the meantime, I just purchased Mortal Kombat and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for PS3, so if anyone's looking for multiplayer action, my PS3 username is S_Roth.
