It's true. It's a no-win situation, no matter how you slice it. You can't touch the merchandise or bring it home. Besides, I don't feel like being in a room with 50 other guys with hard-ons.
Speaking of sexual things, it's certainly something I haven't had any of last week; or much of it at all in the last year or so. Once we got married, sex has become a very infrequent thing. It's not for lack of desire or want. I'd love to go back to having sex every night, or almost every night, but when having sex with a still open wound from last September's surgery (with more to come in less than 2 weeks), you run the risk of opening up.
After I had a colonoscopy a week and a half ago, I had sex. Note to self: never have sex whilst recovering from a colonoscopy AND getting manhandled by doctors, no matter how strong the wife's coming on to you. The romp I had Easter Sunday was my last, as the end result was pain, bleeding, and a lot of lying down. I've spent the whole week just lying in bed half naked after getting home from work to just let my crotch air out. It does help, albeit slowly, when you give your skin air. That's the problem with a wound in the crotch/ass area; it takes a long time to heal, regardless. Can't do too much strenuous activity, otherwise I'll pay for it. Remember, folks, it's still on the books in NY that if you and your partner go without sex for a year, it's considered abandonment and it can be used as grounds for divorce.
For the curious, the colonoscopy I had revealed that yes, the new medicine I'm on is, in fact, working--some of my intestine has healed from Crohn's damage, which is great news. I would've been a bit more joyous had the doctor not told me this right as I was coming off the sedation (why do doctors always give you important news when you're coming out of anesthesia?). So, good news all around.
Coming up in a week and a half is surgery, part two. This surgery is so that the doctor can finish what he started back in September. It's to further clean up the wound area, and also to remove a small device that was placed in me to help close a fistula created by Crohn's. From what it sounds like, it's same-day surgery, and the recovery time should not be 8 weeks. Here's hoping--because I don't have any sick time to spare, having blown it all on the previous surgery.
In other non-colorectal news, the PlayStation Network has been down nearly 2 weeks, and the lawsuits have been starting to fly. Sony has said that the network will begin coming back at some point this week, but I'll believe that when I see it. Sony hasn't been very forthright about this from the start, having adopted the Toyota method for dealing with a major issue--and that's telling nobody anything until long after damage may have occurred. This is the company who told us a WEEK after it went down that personal data was stolen. It took them 3 days to tell us they were hacked. Sony has also mentioned that all PSN users will be getting some freebies when the network's back up. What those freebies are, Sony, in their fashion, has given scant details: "selected PlayStation entertainment content." My guess? Free downloads of the PS1 games "Spice World," based on the movie, and "Hooters Road Trip."
If I was Nintendo or Microsoft, I would've taken full advantage of this and, while the network's been down, slashed prices on Wiis and Xbox 360s (probably 50% off) and some of their more popular online multiplayer games (Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, SOCOM, etc), and in the case of Xbox 360, cut prices on subscribing to Xbox Live, in order to grab those impatient gamers seething over Sony's ineptitude.
In the meantime, Kirby's Epic Yarn is still disgustingly cute, and I melt every time I play it. It's the same reaction I give when I see puppies.
Finally, episode 8 of Downloadable Content will be released tomorrow. It's the first of 4 episodes in which we discuss gaming's classic franchises. In this episode, I and the panel discuss 20 years of Sonic the Hedgehog. We talk about his highs, lows, REALLY lows (Sonic the Were-hog, anyone?), the beginnings of his resurgence (Sonic Colors, Sonic 4), and our experiences playing and growing up with Sega's mascot. Download it for free tomorrow in the iTunes store.
