a_bit_of_wit_2: (Downloadable Content)
I have designated Saturday, June 4 as our next recording day for a set of 3 Downloadable Content podcasts. So far, these are the subjects I want to discuss (keep in mind, the topics may change as we get closer, but I think the first two are definite episodes):

1) Sexism/Women in Video Games: It's no secret that sexism is rampant in video games. While the industry has been better about not having our female characters merely be eye candy, weak, needing a man to feel good about itself, or going into combat scenarios completely underdressed for the environment, there's still room for improvement. After all, the industry wants more female gamers in what's perceived as a male-dominated industry. However, is it as prevalent as we may think? Is one society's cultural bias another person's sexism? What do you think needs to be done to have more strong, independent female characters that can be just as good as a male lead? For this episode, I request an all-female panel, since I can't get the female perspective from a guy.

2) The Great PlayStation Network Outage of 2011: By now, we've all heard the news. Hackers got to Sony and made off with personal information of over 100 million gamers. Along the way, Sony's made a PR nightmare for themselves by not telling anyone anything; hell, it took 6 days after they took down the PSN to tell people that they were hacked, and oh, by the way, your private info's gone. We'll discuss our thoughts on the issue.

3) Can anyone make a good Wii game outside of Nintendo? Over 4 years since the Wii's launch, and even now, there's very little third party support for the system. Why are third party developers so reluctant to make anything for the Wii? What's scaring them off, and why? We'll give our take as to why this is.

3) The idea of downloadable game content: Beginning with this current generation of consoles, game studios have figured out a way to radically increase the price of a video game beyond what you paid when you purchased the title. Studios are even now making games so that in order to unlock features on a disc you already shelled out $60 for, you need to shell out more cash to purchase a code. Are we suckers for eating this up? Do you think this is a good idea, or do you think that once you buy the game, you should already be entitled to all the content therein, and obtain them through gameplay, like we've done for decades?

So, if anyone wants in on any or all episodes, let me know. Hopefully I get some interest and we have some good discussion. Any questions (or even if you want to suggest another episode topic), let me know. Thanks!
