So I've returned from a 2-day jaunt at the New York Renaissance Faire, and even though I had a blast, it was noticeably lacking in April. I spent a lot of the weekend explaining to our friends, some of the cast, musicians and shop people why April wasn't with me--she was down in Long Island for a family function, and when she returned back home last Saturday, the excursion made her quite tired, and she wished to spend a few days by herself and unwind. It was the first time I'd been to Faire without April since before we started dating, so...yeah, while I was enjoying myself, she was in the back of my mind. So I bought stuff for her as if she was there, like a rose, and I brought back a bosom chiller.

The group consisted of myself, Ryan, Luc, and Danielle, and so we began--Sunday was the busiest of the weekend, and I spent most of the day with at least part of the giant blob of people from New Paltz. It was great just seeing everyone, especially when we just sat, drank, chatted, and enjoyed music for a couple of hours at the Blue Boar Inn. Also a huge plus to the day was the unexpected visit of Mary and James, who had been a maybe the entire Faire season. Seeing them again did me a whole world of good; I was glad to see them before their wedding in a few weeks.

On Monday, with a 60% chance of getting hit with weather, we headed back to Faire, where my only plan for the day was to spend it with Carolyn, and we did just that. We even spent the first half of the day a bit drunk, but most of the day wet--that 60% chance of weather became 100, and Carolyn and I became victims of the first giant downpour. We hid inside M'Lady's Panties until it let up, only to make it to the chess board and have it pour again. We saw shows, and after getting nicely tipsy, rejoined Ryan and Luc for the later half of the day. I think Carolyn seemed to enjoy being in the company of three men, even after the alcohol haze lifted. We wandered the grounds some more until we got to the Roselawn for the joust, where Carolyn was absolutely determined to see a joust. What we got was anything but--the sky had exploded for more rain, and now all four of us were completely soaked through.

The Roselawn was quickly becoming a lake, and I was wondering if they were going to call it an early night. What we got was a very abridged joust, and after, Carolyn decided to take her leave, and we headed to pub sing, which was, despite everyone being soaked, full of vibrant energy--despite the pouring rain, all were having a blast. It let up a bit at the end, and as we were leaving, we caught a peasant limbo near the main gate; some of the cast were partaking of the fun whilst a new band to the Faire this year, Cu Dubh, played music. While Luc was dancing it up with his girlfriend of the 3 minutes, Lord Burleigh (and eventually, Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth the First), partook of the limbo before they left, ending the day and the weekend on a jovial note. For me, I was quite happy just having spent some actual time with Carolyn, something we hadn't done in over a year and a half.

I was glad to plan ahead and took yesterday off work, though, and also glad I didn't go all 3 days--all that hard wooden seating at the shows and at the bar did my poor ass no good. So I spent all day yesterday in bed, recovering from the pain and chafing, and so far, so good. It's the ONE problem I have when I go to Faire; until the surgery completely heals, I have to contend with this. Also, being on an all-meat diet for 2 days is also not a good idea, as I found out...ever take a shit so foul you gross yourself out?

It's very unlikely I'll return this year, unless I decide to go on a spur of the moment sort of thing, which, as mentioned, is unlikely, given what's going on in the next few weekends--namely, the wedding of two of my favorite people.

So, a fun weekend, got to see and spend time with people I missed, but it's also good to be back home. I missed my wife--it's so rare that we spend time apart, so when we only saw each other for a couple hours in total last week, it's a bit unfamiliar. Now it's back to daily life, and back to reality...even if I do want to just hide myself from humanity until September 12. However, this LiveJournal does turn 8 on the 11th, so maybe I'll do something special.

And now, your moment of Zen:

"People of Earth, your attention, please. This is Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council. As you will no doubt be aware, the plans for development of the outlying regions of the Galaxy require the building of a hyperspatial express route through your star system. And regrettably, your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes. Thank you...there’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now…what do you mean, you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh, for heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light years away, you know. I’m sorry, but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs, that’s your own lookout. Energize the demolition beams. I don't know, apathetic bloody planet, I've no sympathy at all."
