a_bit_of_wit_2First and foremost: some of you may be wondering why you don't see signups for the upcoming Character Battle contest, which I had planned to get up here today. Alas, it has to be pushed back up to a week. Why? Over the weekend, instead of putting up the bracket and FAQ, and finding pics for all competing characters, my computer got hit with a couple of nasty trojans and malware that took all of Saturday and Sunday to finally wipe off my hard drive. I'm a little disappointed with Norton (Symantec) Antivirus here...it's the Corporate Edition, and yet it never detected a thing. It was only after I ran the computer through Panda's ActiveScan that it picked up the 6 trojans that Symantec did not.
So after 2 days of tech support forums and running several programs to get rid of the trojan that infected my Hosts file (and fixing all the damage that it did to my Registry like disabling my right-cliick, taking my Run command away, making me not able to get into the Registry, immediately closing programs I open, making me not get into Task Manager...), I finally have a clean system. Which is good, because I was starting to price new copies of XP and Microsoft Office, and gearing up to take all my important files off my computer in the event of a reinstall of XP.
Which means that all the work I meant to do over the weekend now has to go on during the week, alas. Bear with me for a little while longer, and signups will begin in a week or less.
Meanwhile, prior to the computer mess, April's brother came and we (April, Ryan, and myself) went to see the third Pirates movie, and I enjoyed it immensely. Once again, I disagree with reviewers...I always do. Seems like reviewers have problems with an action movie having plot. OH NOES! Some said it was too convoluted...bull. I didn't see any problems. I enjoyed it, I'd see it again--after all, isn't that why we go to movies in the first place: to be entertained? Later that day, after dropping Ryan off, April and I went to the park to work up a sweat by playing tennis. We succeeded. Then it was back home for loafing.
Yesterday, I had to go out, just to get away from the computer for a bit, as I was growing very frustrated. Went to Ruby Tuesday, then to Target and B&N, then back home for some sex and computer fixing. Both got done. I'm happy. Oh, and I watched some Blackadder. Oh, hilarity.
In other news, my friend Gene is coming today...it'll be the first time I've seen him in 4 years. I'm rather excited.
And work is work.
So a question to the techies: your views on Panda's anti-virus? Get it or not?
And yes, signups will begin this week. When? When I get everything up.
Time to put some clothes on.
