Rolling flatland and Paul Hogan.
Tuesday, 17 August 2004 13:26Running on 6 hours of sleep yesterday, it was time to make my trip to the center of the country, where I could say with all seriousness that there isn't an ocean within 2000 miles of here. Getting into T.F. Green Airport in Providence, RI was easy enough...then I saw the 200 mile line at the security checkpoint. It was all zig-zagged and convoluted, akin to the inner workings of the various human intestines. Once onboard the first of 3 flights to Oklahoma, I could feel the nervousness welling in me. After listening to the whole rigamarole of what to do in the event of an emergency (read: imminent doom and/or death, which I'd have to go through twice more), I put on the headphones, and I had the opening theme of Trigun blaring in my ears as the plane took off. An hour later, I was in Newark, NJ. Touched base with whom I needed to, and not too long later, it was onto Memphis. Now, I saw one of the more amazing sights of nature on this ride. Never had I seen what life was like above the cloud cover, and as the plane ascended to heights of above 30,000 feet, the sky looked surreal, with clouds of various shapes, sizes, and hues of colors billowed and puffed throughout, an amazing sight.
So, we get into Graceland now, and no Elvis to be had. My tenure in Memphis was brief, for about 30 minutes later, it was time to get on the plane to Tulsa, my final destination. Another short flight, but as the plane made its final descent, I had the feeling of being on a roller coaster, but all went well. Apparently I had made it to the airport 15 minutes before Sarah did, and as I wait in baggage claim, Sarah appeared, although I didn't recognize her--with the sun shining directly behind her, all I saw was a black silouette, yet we saw each other on our cell phones. We spent about half an hour or so driving back to her house, and I met her brother, and a chat about gaming and Final Fantasy arose. I found another gamer, heehee. Then I met her charming mother, and we had some Popeye's for dinner. Then, I began to play Eternal Darkness...I'm 4 chapters in, and Sarah already finds it freaky. Oh, she has no idea. And seeing how we were both tired after the lack of sleep these last few days, it was bedtime.
And now, I'm here. (smiles) It's gonna be fun. I've plunged into a new world, and it'll be an interesting experience.
Till next time...
