You know I can't afford the money-cost variety.
Monday, 9 May 2005 02:08Video Game Theorem #42,219: The "Gaping Hole" Theorem, which states that any character, regardless of height, age, physical health, etc, will peer into a gaping hole, mention how dangerous it is, how dark it is...then proceed to jump down into the hole, and subsequently land on their feet, unshaken by a fall of what could be a couple hundred feet. Let me give you an example--this is from the game Silent Hill 2.
(James Sutherland, main character, walks into a dark, tiny square room. The only light is being given off by his flashlight. He sees a huge hole in the ground.)
James: There's a gaping hole in the center of the room. It's pitch black, it seems to go down quite a ways, and I can't see the bottom through the darkness.
Game: Will you jump down? (and you HAVE to say "yes," otherwise you can't move any further in the game)
Personally, if I saw a pit that went on for quite a ways, pitch black like that--I'm leaving. But it's a video game. The law of averages doesn't exist, and neither does realism.
And speaking of video games, the Into the Lifestream/Fantasy World Summer Contest is going to be a fighters' character battle contest, entitled, Super Smash Melee. Read all about it here: ( Summer Contest 2005: Super Smash Melee )
