First thing of note:

Ivy wins Edenia Division, beating Yoshimitsu 9-7.

Secondly, the Iron Fist Final has been posted in the previous entry. Go vote!

Thirdly...I really, really hope this interview with Staples works out. I really have my hopes set on this thing, even though I may be disappointed in the end. I now fully know the reasons why I want to leave Wal-Mart, 2 main reasons. Managment and customers. Now to get into details. Basically, I'm very disappointed in how things run. It's very poorly run by management, very slipshod. Management lets customers get away with murder. Management is equal to customer's kissass, because that's really all they're there for. Too many times will a customer want to return something, and then we, upholding the return policies of the Photo Lab, decline to make the return--or another example, customer fills out the wrong envelope, despite the clear markings which tell the difference. Customer wants 1-hour but fills out the 2-day developing envelope, drops it in the 2 day drop box; comes b back, angry that their pictures aren't done in an hour and refuses to pay the 1-hour photo price, despite the fact that we point out exactly what the customer did wrong. Their stupidity is our fault. They want to talk to a manager. I know it's game over because the manager will cave and give it to them for free or with an ungodly discount. For a return of a digital camera or digital media--we will decline a return if say, for a digital camera, not all the components are there; the 30-day return window has expired; the camera looks obviously beat up because of customer's negligence; the packaging and/or receipt is totally gone. We, as Photo associates, decline the return. Customer gets angry, and wants to speak to a manager. Again, game over. Manager comes, gives it to them, and we, trying to uphold the proper rules and policies, look stupid, feel very angry, and the customer walks away grinning, knowing that they just got away with one.

It happened again today. Customer bought a 1 GB Memory Stick. She bought it at the beginning of July. Came back today wanting to return it. No packaging, no bar codes, no nothing. She went to Customer Service, and the associate there was going to take it back without question until a CSM (a redcoat) said, "whoa, wait a minute. We need to get Photo in on this." And so, the angry customer and the CSM come back to Photo and asks me if we can take it. I looked at the receipt, found that it was beyond 30 days, and said that we can't. It's out of our hands. To be sure, the CSM calls Alan, the head honcho of Photo, and he says the same thing. We can't take it. Customer explodes, wants to talk to Alan. Alan is paged, comes down, is informed of the situation and points to the return policy HANGING ABOVE THE CUSTOMER'S HEAD WHICH STATES VERY CLEARLY THAT YOU CAN RETURN/EXCHANGE CAMERAS, CAMCORDERS, AND ALL MEDIA AND PERIPHERALS WITHIN 30 DAYS OF PURCHASE WITH RECEIPT. This woman will not take no for an answer, and Alan begins to get angry at her. For one thing, it's beyond the 30 day window. Secondly, we can't resell it since there is no packaging. And Sony won't take it back because there's nothing wrong with it. We are going to lose nearly $200 if we take this back. Alan stands his ground. She wants to speak to a higher manager. This goes all the way to the store manager.

And he caves. Gives her the memory stick. Alan, to be an ass, tells her that this is going to come right out of his check because of this.

"Good," she replies, and leaves grinning.

For a couple of hours after that, I was angry. And it showed on my face. I mean, why the fuck do we even have return policies if managers are just going to ignore them and kowtow to the customer's whim, even though they are DEAD WRONG?

Very poorly run.

Manager = kissass. And customers know this.

Which leads me to the customers. I've been at this Wal-Mart for 3 months. I have never, ever, ever had the displeasure of serving probably the stupidest group of the human race. McDonald's is looking tempting again. Anything for a smarter and kinder clientele, please. Because working here is starting to make me dislike people, and I mean that very seriously.

And I think I'm getting a sign, or maybe an omen--every time I am there 12-9, as well as assistant manager Scott (one of the cool ones), an accident always occurs. Someone ALWAYS slips on something and hurts themselves when the two of us are on, always right around 8 PM...odd.

Whew...I feel better now. Sorry to have put you through that, but I needed to get it off my chest.

In the meantime, I have work from 9 AM to 6 PM tomorrow, so I'll be heading to bed soon.

Nighty night, all.
