Poor neglected LJ.
Last time I did a real update was, well--a week ago. Yesterday was my first day off since the previous Wednesday before, and I found myself lucky to have today off as well.
Nothing interesting going on in the work front, Wal-Mart is Wal-Mart. However, April did get her formal intro to Wally World--the introduction one gets when they request a day off in plenty of time, gets denied it, which then comes the fight for the day off. In this case, the day in question is Easter Sunday--which, not only is it Easter, but also her 22nd birthday, and also the birthday of her late grandfather, who passed away in January. Definitely cause for a family gathering this year. She and I put in the request off on the same day, 1 month in advance. However, in a bizarre ironic twist, I got the day off with ease, and she got denied. There is a valid reason why she was denied--so many other cashiers had already asked for the day off, and there would be no coverage on Easter.
Nearly every store will be closed that weekend for the observation of Passover/Easter anyway, yet Wal-Mart will remain open--and not the regular Wal-Marts, but the supercenters, which this one is. So, she's gonna take her gripe to the supervisor who denied her the day off, and if nothing is resolved, she'll take it to the store manager. If nothing gets resolved there, she's not showing up. Her grandmother is coming up, she will be needed. Once again, fuck Wal-Mart.
You'd think that such a highly Christian store such as Wal-Mart would take one of the more heavy-weighted holidays like Easter and close. However, in the interests of capitalism, this gets shafted.
Yesterday, April and I had a couple more interviews with New York State--we both had one with the Lottery, which went very well. Unlike the previous couple of interviews, where it consisted of the interviewers telling me the position and that was it (taking all of 15 minutes), this one was an actual interview, where I was told what the job entailed, they asked me questions, and we chatted. Mine took nearly a whole hour, April was in there 40 minutes. Even if we don't get hired, I won't feel too bad because they actually took the time to interview me properly, and they were very friendly to boot. My 2nd interview was with April's mom's boss, and while it took less time, it was also a valid interview--he just loved to yak, though. After the interviews were done and over with, we (April, her younger brother Ryan, and myself) went to see V for Vendetta (my 2nd time seeing it, April's 3rd), which was just as amazing as the first time we saw it. Ryan was so taken, he stole April's copy of the original graphic novel. After, we got back to the house, had dinner, gamed, and came home.
Today consisted of mostly loafing for me--watched 4 episodes of FMA, and I now have seen the first season of Full Metal Alchemist (first 26 episodes) in full, and Carolyn...wow. I'll be chatting with you later. I can't wait to get through the remaining discs, not only for my own excitement, but Carolyn loaned these to me last May when I moved in, and she's a-wanting them back. I also went outside around the complex, shooting off some film, and spent time playing Silent Hill 3. And yes, Sarah, I have voted for all the nominees for the FW Awards.
We have more canvass letters to send back, and so more interviews with NY pending.
In other news, our contest is down to its final 4 battles, and will end April 2nd.
Sigh...my next day off is Tuesday. Joyous. And now Wonka has ended.
