Y2K turned out all right...
Sunday, 9 April 2006 00:15A rare thing happened today: a day off--on a SATURDAY, no less. Busiest day of the week, and I get the day off. Of course, doesn't help that April had a full 9 hour shift, but what can ya do when working in retail?
Got my first reply today from a state agency to determine if I was hired or not--I wasn't, alas. This position was for the Worker Protection Unit in the Dept. of Labor--the one that I had to go to Albany TWICE for, because on the first take, the person who was interviewing me didn't have all of his necessary people there, so it was a half-interview. He asked me to come back again for the rest of it, when everyone would be in attendance. So I did, and 3 days later, I get my first rejection letter.
According to April's mother, the person that was hired--on paper, anyway--seems more qualified. State rules say that those people who got 100s on the civil service test get first priority. With myself getting a 95, I get 2nd choice (should I be the best of the 95s that were interviewed AND if there are no qualified 100s to take the position). The new hire has a college degree from RPI (an engineering school in Troy, NY) which ultimately swayed the prospective boss. So, congrats to him, I guess. My question(s) is this: why is someone with a degree from an engineering school applying to work for a position in NYS, number one; and number two: why at nearly the bottom level salary grade? I'd think with qualifications like that, he'd be able to shoot for something significantly higher.
However, the canvass letters keep coming in, so more interviews on the way. And seeing as how going to NP this Wednesday has gone down the drain due to an Easter break where campus will be gone after 3:15 PM...if more agencies want to do an interview for Wednesday, guess where we'll be.
Talked to my stepfather today for the first time in a while--he's having some financial trouble (as per the usual) although this time, it's blamed on higher electricity costs. Apparently Cape Cod just saw a 60 or so percent increase in the rates due to the skyrocketing of oil prices. Alas, as we all know here--if oil goes up, EVERYTHING goes up. So he's hit with an electric bill for about $500, of which most of that weight comes from my stepbrother jacking all the power. Although Rob won't contribute to the house at all--he just pays his $75 a week for rent and that's it. Doesn't help pay for the bills or anything. My cousin Jim, who was temporarily taking refuge in that house has left, but not before causing some chaos--apparently shitting in plastic bags and leaving it in the basement.
And to think, I used to have such high hopes for that boy. Now I hope he gets jailed and thoroughly ass-raped.
However, my stepdad did get hired at the Oceanographic, they just have to work out when he starts. Hopefully it pays him more than his night job, then he can leave it.
Other than that, today was spent purchasing April's birthday gifts. Her birthday happens to fall on Easter Sunday this year, and despite all the managers she went through, they still would NOT give her the day off. So, she's already said that she's not showing up. Also, Rob (Photo Rob) has informed me that he's leaving Wal-Mart right around the same time I am, so 2 specialists go bye-bye in May. Alan's gonna REALLY need to get on the ball now.
And I think that about does it for now. I'm going to bed. Work tomorrow, 1-10.
Before I go: to everyone who's played Eternal Darkness, here's a tidbit from Yahoo--apparently they discovered the Tome of Eternal Darkness. Read here: Deep into that darkness peering...long I stood there, wondering...fearing...doubting...
Nighty night, all.
