Do you know how embarrassing it is to wipeout doing 0?!
Wednesday, 5 April 2006 00:46And it's time for the usual State of the Brian.
Now that my contest has ended, my nights have been freed up--until the next contest, anyway, set to begin in July. However, before that, we will be moving to Albany in May, and hopefully, we both have employment before that point. Which we're currently working on now.
My tenure at Wal-Mart, at least, in Kingston, nears its end, and Alan is gonna have start looking for my replacement very soon. When I leave, Allison will be the only full-timer left until they hire someone. When we move to Albany, hopefully with state jobs in our pockets, I may still do a part-time, 16 hours a week at the Wal-Mart in Albany, if they take me in the Photo Lab. I love photography, and I want to develop my own film in a lab. I don't want anyone else touching my film. What can I say?
I also have come to the very sad conclusion that I will probably have to leave the College-Community Chorale, which bums me out. I wanted to perform Mozart's Requiem this spring, however--with the amount of rehearals I've missed due to us going up to Albany for job interviews, April's kidney stone, 1 or 2 just because I wanted to hang with friends...it does bum me out in a way--the fact that Wednesday is the only constant day I have off was BECAUSE I was in New Paltz doing chorus. However, because it's been the only constant day we both have off, that's the day we have to put our job interviews on and head up to Albany.
And speaking of, I won't be in New Paltz tomorrow either--2 job interviews tomorrow.
I miss my social life. I miss having my nights free so that I could do stuff--hanging out with friends, going to the mall and spending needless money, going out with April and having fun.
I hate working in the middle of the day, coming home, only to fall asleep and do it all over the next day. And it's one of the reasons why I really want a job with New York State--it's a 9-5, regular job. Don't work nights or weekends.
In other news, MCLA has exercised probably one of the most ridiculous state laws in the history of state laws...ON ME. Apparently, under MA state law, if you owe an outstanding balance to any official agency (like a college, in this case), then that agency has the right to grab your MA tax refund and use it toward your remaining owed balance. Of course, they notify you of this after they've already grabbed your tax refund, processed it, and everything is a done deal. So while you're sitting here expecting money back, you just get some letter from the MA Dept. of Revenue saying, "fuck you, we gave the MA College of Liberal Arts the right to grab your hard-earned refund because you owe them money. You have no say in this matter." Sucks, I was gonna get back $117 from MA.
So I called MCLA on Monday to ask, you know, what gives? I've been paying them monthly ever since I left, and then they pull this shit on me. However, the woman I spoke to apologized profusely, showering me with praise--telling me that she has set up payment plans for many people, and I am one of the very few who have stuck with it without ANY problem. I said $100 a month, and have stuck to it for 15 months now, no problems. So, because she can't refund my tax return to me, we came to the agreement that the $92 that MCLA took forcefully (the remaining $25 went to the Dept. of Revenue for a non-refundable processing fee) will serve as this month's payment to them. To make up for the remaining $8, I'll pay them $108 next month. And in all honesty, to formally argue with MA on this requires me going to North Adams to get a hearing--it'd cost more in gas and possible court fees than I'd actually get. So, in a sense, I do get my refund back--I don't have to take $100 out of my paycheck this month to pay that bill.
All righty, I've got 2 interviews with New York State tomorrow, time for bed.
Nighty night, all.
