More gas than a politician.
Monday, 17 April 2006 22:50And then there were 5.
5 people now left in the Photo Lab, after Allison took it upon herself to quit. Her boy got fired, so she followed suit, leaving us all in the lurch. Very foolish move, if you ask me. Yes, retail is a harsh, cruel place, but why totally trash your good work standing in the name of hormones? I'm feeling just a bit bitter by it.
Won't bug me for too much longer, though...2 and a half weeks, I'll be gone. Rob leaves 5 days before I do. When I leave, that is the end of the "Original 6." Well, original from when I started in Kingston, anyway. When I began there nearly 11 months ago, the Photo Lab consisted of Jeff, Todd, Dana, Rob, Allison, and myself. Then we kinda started dropping off one by one--Jeff, fired for developing his own nude pics. Needless to say, these were tasteful pics, the kind you'd see in a fashion mag. Tasteful, not porn; Todd, who got fired for "excessive lateness." Yes, he was a bit brash at times, but he worked; Dana, fired for the same reason as Todd; Allison, quit after her boy got fired. Rob, who started out full time there, then some months ago dropped to part-time so he could teach, is about to leave fully because of better job opportunities within his teaching job; and I'm leaving because I'm moving to Albany, and also for better job opportunities.
Although I can't help notice a pattern here--all 6 of us at one point or another had been full-time. And now Wal-Mart (the entire company, according to Alan) is going to stop hiring full-time associates right off the bat. Now you'll have to work to get full-time standing. If you're hired, you start off as part-time, and if you're good enough, you'll advance to full time. It's really a crock of shit, and the reasoning makes perfect sense...in business logic. They don't want to pay so much in benefits. As it stands, full-time associates have to wait 6 months for some of their benefits, a full year for the rest. Part-timers have to work for Wal-Mart for 2 years to receive those same benefits. And if Wal-Mart's going to hire just part-time labor, think of the money they save on benefit payments. It's really cruel and sick, since many people who want to work at Wal-Mart want full-time work.
Alan and Laurie now need to hire at least 4 part-time associates to fill in the gaps that are left by Allison, Todd, Dana, and soon to be Rob and myself. Ah, well.
In other news, Easter was fun. We were in Albany with April's family, and we had dinner at Aunt Tre's. I shot off 2 rolls of film, the results of some of it to be posted here. April got her birfday gifts, one of them from her grandma that made her cry. April's parents paid her taxes for her birthday, she got some DVDs--Narnia, Rent, and the special edition of the original Producers (Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel). She got some dollars, and her uncle and mom imbibed in some Godfather wine. Not a bad day, all in all. Spent an hour on the phone with my family, seeing how they're doing. My sister chatted with me for an hour...god, she's like me when I was that age. It's scary. I didn't have boobs, though. Or periods. Or desires of jockdom. And designer clothing. I had a job, though. Talked to my stepfather--he's holding up fine, but sounds exhausted; the exhausted of spending countless hours and lost sleep thinking about financial woes.
And April needs chocolate.
I thank those who have provided me (detailed) feedback on my pics! Here! Have some more! Remember, all of them copyrighted BY ME. You steal, you die. Oh, and the dog belongs to April's family. If you really feel like purchasing them, go to my e-store, Mad Squirrel Photos, and do so. http://madsquirrel.photoreflect.com
