The child drinks milk 9 times a day!
Tuesday, 31 October 2006 20:38Well, folks, it's been a week or so, so I bring you an update in the Life of Brian. It's a long post. Random blurbs, with no particular link...just things that come off the top of my head:
Since last Saturday, when I announced the theme for the upcoming winter contest and began taking suggestions for characters, only one has come through with a list. Naturally, those who want to give ideas will procrastinate until signups are just about to begin. But I'm taking them. Refer to the last post for info.
Work was interesting today, as many of us dressed up and/or brought in much food. Needless to say, not a lot of work got done. I dressed up in RenFaire garb.
This will most likely be my last real LJ post until December, considering that NaNoWrimo begins tomorrow. For those who are uneducated, NaNoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month, is a contest. A contest to see if you can write a novel under serious time pressure. The novel has to be 50,000 words long (about 80-90 MS Word 8x11 pages), and it could be on anything. The goal is quantity over quality. There is no prize, it's all on the honor system. You get bragging rights. Why do I do this? Because I'm nuts. This year, I shall be novelizing Resident Evil 4, released for GC and PS2.
So, in the coming month, you may see links to the story (I'm an attention whore, please read and review when the story does go up), and also my word count as I go for the 50,000 mark. Will I be online? Maybe, but if I do, I'll have an away message stuck up there most of the time.
I bought FF12 today, but because of NaNo, won't begin it until December. Don't want to start it tonight, then forget what happened during the opening hours and restart. So, it's on hold. I preordered it, and IT IS MINE. I took a look at the strategy guide (not INSIDE it, no, that'd be sacrilege), and the thing is several HUNDRED pages thick. MY GOD.
In other news, April is making a KILLING with her baking around the office. Monday, she brought in some Christmas butter cookies, and the 3 dozen were gone before lunch. She has received many orders for them--one person wanted a double order. As for me, with Mad Squirrel Stuff...only 1 person has bought anything from there. COME ON, PEOPLE! Pweese?
Coming up is Election Day here in the US, and so much importance has been placed on this election...a good chunk of the seats in the House and Senate are up for grabs, and the battle betwen the Democrats and Republicans is FIERCE, to put it bluntly. It's now become a mudslinging contest, actually. Here we are, 1 week away from these elections, and Bush is all over the place supporting Republicans. While I see no problem with a major political figure supporting his own, it's the messages he's giving at these rallies that are pissing me off. Either it's desperation or he's being a spoiled rich kid when he says at a rally that the terrorists will win if Democrats take over Congress. Now, with 1 week left, he's pulling out the card that won him the 2004 election--appealing to the Bible Belt with rhetoric and promises that he will make sure that gay marriage is banned. And then with Rush Limbaugh accusing Michael J. Fox of acting...sigh.
So, to all you registered voters, educate yourselves on your potential candiates, and VOTE. I personally will be voting Democatic, but you vote as you will. I'd just like to see the Democrats take control again and be amused at the fact that we have a Republican president with a Democratic Congress. Which means NO legislation will get passed for the remainder of Bush's term, but at least he can't do any more harm. As I see it, the Democrats are the lesser of two evils. So come Election Day...go out to the polls and vote.
Baseball season is now over, congrats to the Cardinals on winning the World Series. While the Postseason is always eventful, I don't think the Cardinals actually deserved to win it--the Tigers and Mets had such great seasons, I would've loved to see either one win it all. For a team who finished 14 games behind the Mets...I think it was more a case of luck than anything else. That, and they were helped by the fact that Tigers pitchers forgot how to play baseball, much less throw a ball to someone. But the season's over. At least the Yankees didn't win. And hopefully Boston doesn't have another monumental crash which costs them the season this time around. So, what takes over now? Football, basketball, and hockey, I think. I'll just stick to video games.
Thank you, Ben, for recommending uTorrent to me. I've been downloading video game soundtracks left and right. I now have all of the FF OSTs, all of the Resident Evil OSTs, all of the Metal Gear Solid OSTs, Xenosaga OSTs, Chrono Trigger, Eternal Darkness, Xenogears OST, and just recently added: Ocarina of Time OST, with an OoT Re-arranged Symphony soundtrack, and an OoT re-mixed soundtrack. I've been working April's CD burner to death. Remember, Joshie, if you need any for your Download Center, I've got them.
I'll be getting the monitor for my newly-acquired computer this week. November looks like this for me:
All month: NaNoWrimo.
Nov. 10-12: In Ithaca, going to visit Carolyn.
Nov. 17-19: Going to be in New Paltz for my 21st birthday.
Thanksgiving Weekend: Cape Cod, spending Turkey Day with them.
Somewhere in there, I have to start up my new computer and begin making the transition of files from the Lappy to the new Compy, getting it Internet-ready, etc.
So, have a good November, everyone! I'll be around from time to time. Hopefully, I'll have a completed RE4 novelization by the end of the month.
