Wednesday, 27 December 2006 22:07So, over a week since the last LJ post. It's been busy, to say the least.
First, to those I didn't call or IM over the weekend, hope you had an excellent, merry Christmas, Decemberween, Festivus, whatever you celebrate.
Last weekend was spent on Cape Cod, and we observed Christmas with my weird family. Always a trip, them. We had gone on Saturday so that April could drive during the day. After getting there, we were there for an hour before going to the 99 in downtown Falmouth and seeing friends that I hadn't seen in over a year and a half--since I got out of that prison which was 291 Old Barnstable Road. Saw Kat (and husband Matt), Michelle (and boy Shawn), Ronny (and girl Dejah), Cilla and Dave, and Tracy (with a guy who's name escapes me). Much food and merriment was had, but 2 hours is nowhere near enough time to catch up on a year and a half of chat. Still, the time was fun. After managing to squeeze into Cilla's car (despite Ronny touching me--fangirl that he is) April discovered that Cilla too is a Phan, we spent the rest of the night relaxing. I went downstairs and played some video games with Rob, Tanya, and Heather. Even though the game is some years old now, I keep meaning to get SSX Tricky but I haven't purchased it yet. Then it was bed.
Christmas Eve found us at home for most of the day, and April got to try lobster for the first time. And she found that it was good. Jen, her boy, and baby James came over for a bit, gave them presents. I gave Baby James a Baby Trogdor onesie. SO CUTE! But most of it was spent loafing. April felt a little down from the whole ambiance--the way that her family and my family celebrate the holidays are totally different. While her family tends to be a little more observant and ceremonial, mine...isn't. In my family, on Christmas Eve, there is no special dinner, nothing ceremonial about it. In my parents' house, Christmas Eve is just another day. So she was feeling a little homesick and not Christmas-y, but I helped to cheer her up with some song, dance, and James Taylor.
Christmas, however, was a different story. After staying up a little later than I normally do playing Mario Kart on the Wi-Fi, woke up around 8ish and began opening gifts to James Taylor Christmas music. My Christmas haul:
--Nintendo DS game: The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
--CD: Elton John's newest, The Captain and the Kid
--Monopoly: Nintendo Edition
--Two warm t-shirts
--Kodak EasyShare digital camera with SD card
--Pictionary
--1 gallon fish tank
--fleece-lined jeans
--Lord of the Rings (the books)
--$50 (which goes into my Wii funds)
Not bad, I say. Apparently, I'm also still pending gifts from Ben, Annie, and April's parents as well. Curious am I...but, in the meantime, Grandma and Janna came over, and Grandma loved the clown puppet I got her. April was enjoying her James Herriott books, and I called my other grandmother (biological), and Dad called me. My stepfather went to work with the ham. Heather and I attempted twice to get a game of Nintendo Monopoly off the ground, but interruptions kept cutting them short. I broke out Pictionary, but before doing so, a debate was in the works after my sister showed off her lack of tact by asking April what her religious beliefs were. My aunt then had an opinion--now I love my aunt, but she is the type of person who has an overwhelming, dominating personality, and will shove her opinion down your throat--and rather than get into an argument over definitions, April retired to the basement and stayed there for a bit. I went down, attempted to cheer her up, then went back upstairs for Pictionary while Bob and April watched Doctor Who. A delicious ham dinner was had, and I watched some Who while playing my new DS game. At 8 PM, Heather and I attempted for the 3rd time to get a Nintendo Monopoly game going.
Mom lost after 2 hours in. The game ended in A STALEMATE after 4 hours in and still no winner. By midnight, the bank had nearly gone bankrupt. I had all the $500s in my possession. If we were going by how much cash we had, I won. However, 4 hours in and the game did not complete. So I've yet to christen my new Monopoly with a COMPLETE game.
Tuesday was brief--we slept until 10:30 and left at 12, with not much action in between. We stopped in Albany at April's parents on the way home, had dinner, hooked up Ryan's DS to the Wi-Fi, and shortly after, we were home. Had sex, showered, then went to bed.
And that was Christmas weekend. Oh, and Tanya: you're way too pink. Blindingly so. :)
Over the weekend, I was glad to find that we now have 10 entries for the upcoming VGH contest, which means that I will now definitely do the contest. However, there is only a week and a half left for contest entry! I know this is futile, but I know that more of you are interested in entering!
