Character Battle Contest 8: Now taking suggestions!
Thursday, 8 November 2007 08:18Well, well, well. We're just about 2 months away from Fantasy World's 8th character battle contest, and while I'm busy all this month doing NaNoWriMo, it's now time for me to begin taking suggestions for the upcoming winter contest, Battle Royal.
As I brought to light at the end of the last contest, this 8th one is going to be my last large-scale contest. While these have become an FW tradition and mainstay, my reasons are almost purely academic. The biggest reason is that very soon, I plan to go back to college, and for those of you who know how much work goes into one of these things, juggling a full-time job with the added bonus of college would leave me little free time to run a contest of this size. Don't worry, though--character battle contests will continue, but will be comprised of a much smaller format. Details on that will be announced at the end of this contest.
The theme for this final contest: a random character battle contest. That's right--this contest will comprise of 128 random characters from ANY CONSOLE video game, going as far back to the 8-bit days to the current generation.
This is where you come in. Making a bracket is always the hardest part of these contests. So I ask you: which characters would YOU like to see battle it out in the Battle Royal? Give me as many suggestions as you like. There are a few conditions, however:
1) No characters from PC games.
2) Since I began taking suggestions a few contests ago, there have always been 1 or 2 people who gives me a list of EVERY FINAL FANTASY CHARACTER in existence. While I appreciate the FF love, keep in mind that if any FF characters make it into the bracket, there will be 2 or 3 at most.
3) Any character is fair game for suggestion into the final bracket, except for the past 7 contest winners. They were: Laguna Loire (FF8), Nemesis (Resident Evil 3), Scorpion (Mortal Kombat), Samus Aran (Metroid), Jessica (Dragon Quest 8), Link (Legend of Zelda), and Cloud (FF7). These characters, along with whoever the winner is here will participate in the Tourmanent of Champions, tacked onto the Summer Contest in summer of 2008.
How can you submit? One of a few ways:
--I prefer that people send me their suggestions through forum messaging (PMs) as opposed to public display. Why? Because when I make the seeded bracket, I WANT REPEAT SUGGESTIONS. If people give me repeats, that means that they'll be ranked higher in whatever their division is. It worked very well last contest, with all the #1s making it to the Tourmanent Final.
--You can also email me (LLoire1119@hotmail.com, subject line: "Contest Suggestions").
--You can also post a comment into my LiveJournal (l-loire.livejournal.com) or the FW community on LiveJournal http://community.livejournal.com/fwunlimited/).
--Finally, you can also IM me if I'm online via AIM (Xcbrian2), Yahoo (LLoire01), or MSN (LLoire1119@hotmail.com)
Like I said, if people send their suggestions to me anonymously, it will lead to repeated suggestions. The list can be as long as you want.
Signups will begin in early December! If you didn't catch the podcast at the end of the last contest, I am offering a prize of 2 video games of the winner's choosing!
I can only imagine what you guys are gonna suggest to me. I now await your suggestions.
