I think I've finally reached that point working for the State in which I now value my weekends and holidays off. For the longest time after starting my work with the Lottery did I feel strange and weird whenever the weekend or a holiday came around and I didn't have to work. Such was the result of spending 3 years at McD and 2 at Wal-Mart, where there was no such thing. So even though I enjoyed my portrait studio work over these last 4 months, I once again feel a joy knowing that I can have 2 days off, called the weekend. And that's my thought for the day.
In other news, the car is fixed. As it turned out, that grinding I was hearing, was in fact, the brakes slowly being shot to hell. It was metal grinding against metal, and I'm glad I brought it in before it got worse. When that began happening a few days ago, I knew I needed to get it in and fast. So, nearly $500 later (FUCKING OUCH...this is why I got a credit card in the first place), the car has new brakes, and I can go down to Ramapo later this week without the car crapping out. Speaking of the trip, it looks like my lodgings are now set, as I'll be spending 3 nights at Dan H's place,Wednesday to Friday, and then spending Saturday night in a hotel while the Dans and Carolyn go to Cape May. And it looks like fun will be had. I'm actually pretty excited about hanging out with whomever I can round up...it's been a while.
If you haven't read on April's LJ by now, she got a promotion! And a change of venue...she's going to the Department of Labor, where she will have more to do and make more money. Not only will she now be making more than me, it also means more combined income. We can start putting money aside for our wedding in June of 2009. Hopefully a promotion for me is not too far off, and then things will really be swell, if both of us are making nearly $30k a year. So a big congrats to April! :) That was a hell of a birthday present, I must say, for she found out last Wednesday, on said birfday. Today, we'll be going to Albany, to her parents, for what I call her "post-birthday" dinner and poker game.
And as for tomorrow, who knows?
And before I forget, happy birthday,
lazaruskell!
