That LJ title was brought to you by Dave Matthews, during some dialogue in between songs. Annie and I had a fucking blast at the Dave Matthews Band concert last night up at SPAC. Learning from our mistake last year, we got there earlier this time, and actually managed to find a place to sit on the lawn that was NOT at the top of the hill. This time we got to see the opening act in its entirety, a band called Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. Not bad, they played for 45 minutes or so. Then around 8:30 PM, all it took was the band's opening notes to rile the sellout crowd (somewhere between 25000 and 30000 people) to get us all going. It didn't stop for 3 hours, when they played their final encore. In case you're curious, here was their setlist from last night:
Touring with them was the amazing Tim Reynolds, who can do things with a guitar that no normal human can seem to do, and oh, just amazing. Carter Beauford is probably the best drummer EVAR, and it was particularly enjoyable just seeing everyone in the band genuinely enjoying playing along. Immediately after the band performed the final encore, Carter gave his drumsticks to members of the audience before they shuffled out onto the bus, then as we were leaving, hanging out their windows and waving to crazed fans as they drove by and off to their next venue, the Comcast Center (formerly Tweeter Center) in Mansfield, MA. I will definitely go to my 3rd DMB concert here when they return next summer. :) In my opinion, this show was better than last year's.
So afterward, after I inhaled my body weight in marijuana, cigarette, and cigar smoke, it was back home.
What a night.
