Oh, for tuna?
Sunday, 9 August 2009 12:15What a good couple of weekends this has been. Last weekend was opening weekend at the RenFaire, and now yesterday. Yesterday was spent mostly at Tanglewood, our 3rd time there this summer. As it turned out, with our purchase to see Carmina Burana, it also gave us admission to a short Prelude concert that took place before the main concert. The Prelude concert was held in Ozawa Hall, the smaller performance hall at Tanglewood. Already, this was a good deal--2 concerts for $20? Can't beat it. It was also the first time I'd seen a show at Ozawa Hall, and it's quite a nice little area. Pic: Exterior
The prelude concert consisted of, for those who actually are interested and curious:
1) Three songs by Franz Schubert (which are actually poems by other writers, set to music by Schubert): Fischerweise (Fisherman's Song), Nachtstück (Nocturne), Auf Der Bruck (Upon the Mountain Cliff)
2) Divertimento in B-flat major, by Mozart, which consisted of 6 movements.
Good works, and while I thought the Divertimento was lovely, it was quite soothing and relaxing--to the point where I was fighting off sleep. After the Prelude concert, we then had an hour and a half to kill before the main concert; April and I headed back to the lawn of the Music Shed, and we ate some food we brought in our cooler. Shortly after 8:30, the main show began:
1) Symphony No. 1, by Prokofiev, consisting of 4 movements.
2) Carmina Burana, by Carl Orff. This was played by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, along with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and PALS Children's Chorus.
What an amazing, awesome performance. I will never forgive my high school chorus teacher, Deb Phelps, for doing this with the Varsity Choir THE YEAR AFTER I GRADUATED.
So, yeah, that was last night. Today? D&D.
