See the leg-waxing demonstration!
Wednesday, 19 August 2009 17:39Nice to know that summer finally arrived in the middle of AUGUST. Now, is it going to demand that it stays to November? Oy.
So, the summer is quickly coming to a close...as I look on the calendar, there's just under 2 weeks left before the semester starts, and there's still plenty to do. I have all of the stuff I'll need for this semester's 2 classes--even though it is just Drawing 1 and Digital Imaging 1 (translation: Photoshop CS4), I'm happy that it cost me less than $100 to get all the supplies and books I'll need for the semester. At least, to start. I anticipate refills of drawing supplies, but those are cheap. If anything, this semester will be much easier on my wallet (here's hoping, anyway) than last semester was, when film, photo supplies, and tuition ate up every penny I earned. I'm looking forward to my second semester back to school, even if I foresee myself struggling through Drawing--I can take an amazing picture, but drawing is a challenge. Hopefully I do well--it will either be after this semester or next that I have to present a portfolio to the head of the photo department, in which this will determine if I can continue on to the degree program, and I have to demonstrate proficiency in photography and drawing. I'll get there when I get there.
But before that, April and I do have a 9-day vacation coming up...we leave for Cape Cod this Saturday and do not return home until the following Saturday. I'm not staying with my family this trip--that would not be a vacation. We decided on Cape Cod primarily for the fact that April hasn't seen much of the Cape beyond Falmouth, so we took a campsite in Eastham, right smack in the middle of the Cape, and there will be exploring and fun...provided Hurricane Bill doesn't decide to ram the Cape. I'm watching that potential scenario--trying to get OFF Cape Cod when a hurricane is coming is like trying to hop on the subway after a game at Fenway Park--slow, tedious, and takes much longer than it needs to be. Two hours to go five miles is not fun. At this point, it's predicted that it will miss the coast, but it'll be near enough to create some very choppy surf. The Cape Cod National Seashore is already a fun place with big waves and strong undercurrents--don't really wish to test out a hurricane. After we come home Saturday, we go to Tanglewood on Sunday for our last time this summer--a James Taylor concert. Then, school starts, the week passes, and then it's RenFaire for Labor Day weekend.
Not too long after that, April and I have the whole wedding thing on October 2nd or 3rd. Again, immediate family only for this first ceremony, nothing too fancy. Then next summer, we hope to do it again at the Faire, inviting copious amounts of friends.
So that's it, really. Hopefully I get to see you all at Faire--I already know some of you who are, and looking forward to it.
And tomorrow, April and I go see RiffTrax Live, which promises to be fucking hilarious.
