FGCB Semifinals, Summary Post.

a_bit_of_wit_2To everyone playing in the contest: Day 60 of FGCB:
1 week is all that remains in this contest. We're now down to 8 characters. We began with 128. Over the next 4 days, it will dwindle down to 4, then 2, and then the winner.
The Division Finals are now set--Guardia's ended tonight with some fanfare: Lara won with relative ease, beating Aika handily.
However, Xiaoyu and Mileena would come down to our 5th tiebreaker battle of this contest. At battle's end, it was an 8-8 tie, to which I put the deciding vote in my #4's hand...my #1-3 tiebreakers were not online, alas. So it got to my friend Nick, who cast the winning vote for Mileena.
Again, I couldn't advantage on this tiebreaker. I'd get no points for it. AGAIN.
However, the finals are set. And here's how it looks:
Midgar: Aerith vs. Morrigan.
Eregion: Kirie vs. Samus.
Hyrule: Tifa vs. Lulu.
Guardia: Lara vs. Mileena.
Out of 17600 possible points, we netted 5200, slightly less than the Quarterfinal round.
The Semifinals, while brief, did offer a few highlights: I knocked Saya out of 1st, ending an 11-day run there. We also saw 3 tiebreaker battles--one in every division except Midgar. Garnet, a favorite (for reasons I can't fathom) nearly knocked out Ninty classic Samus; Lulu just barely kicked Chun-Li out; and Mileena, from the classic Mortal Kombat, just edged out Xiaoyu from Tekken. I also got some fan art submissions, and have since, used them. Give it up for our artists! Hopefully for the next contest, more of you will submit!
Speaking of, I've already decided the theme for the next contest: It will be an RPG Character Battle contest. I'm still working out the details (and a creative title). That will take place this summer, it shall be FW's 5th Character Battle contest.
Some of us near the bottom have taken advantage of these late battles, betting on longshots to win and have begun climbing the leaderboard, trimming the gap between 1st and you. Mort seems to have a grip on 3rd for now, and the gap between 1st and 2nd is only 75 points.
TetsuoTrunks has officially ended scoring, so he'll finish at 180 points. Also, Zergplex and Luna can no longer score any more points after blanking the entire Semifinal round. Mort won 7 out of the 8 battles this round.
Of the 22 possible predicted champions, let's see who's gone:
Lucca, defeated by Garnet, Eregion Quarterfinals.
Peach, eliminated by Tifa, Hyrule Quarterfinals. (2 people picked her.)
Ivy, defeated by Tifa, Hyrule Semifinals.
Mei Mei, defeated by Dixie Kong, Eregion Round 1.
KOS-MOS, defeated by Ivy, Hyrule Round 2.
Zelda, defeated by Tifa, Hyrule Round 2.
Ada Wong, defeated by Garnet, Eregion Round 2.
Farah Oersted, defeated by Mileena, Guardia Round 2.
13 of us are still standing. We'll see that number trimmed after the Division Finals.
There is a record for the Division Finals: Saya has been the only person to win all 4 of the Division Finals. She pulled this feat off in last summer's contest, Super Smash Melee. Can she do it again? Or will someone else nab that title?
