Day 67 of VGH:
Well, well, well…it has now come to an end. My 6th contest, the Video Game Heroes Character Battle Contest, has now played itself out to completion. It was a great contest, with a fantastic finish. 128 heroes of the video game world battled it out, and now the champion has been declared.
As for you, the 21 people who entered this contest, watching the leaderboard change daily kept me curious as about who was going to take it all in the end. Even by the end of the Losers’ Match, I still had no clue who’d take it. So, since I kept you in the dark for the last 4 battles of VGH, let’s recap.
We began with the two preliminary battles—Cloud and Wolverine, Link and Leon. C&T had an 11 day run at the top going into the VGH Final. Here’s a refresher:
1st, 6325/8800: C&T (11-day streak)
2nd, 5525/8800: Eyes
3rd, 5450/8800: Brie
4th, 5400/8800: Magus
5th, 5150/8800: Kinie
6th, 5075/8800: Saya
7th, 4725/8800: Sputin
8th, 4625/8800: Jesse
9th, 4575/8800: Mort
10th, 4475/8800: Shadow
11th, 4400/8800: TetsuoTrunks
12th, 4225/8800: DaUnknown
13th, 3950/8800: Diamond
14th, 3900/8800: Zack
15th, 3875/8800: Halflingspy
16th, 3825/8800: Cillaroth
17th, 3125/8800: MusicalRicardo
18th, 2950/8800: Fragments
19th, 2575/8800: Zergplex
20th, 2325/8800: Alyssa
21th, 1650/8800: CrystalGuardian
Magus had been the only one to get all his Division Final predictions correct, meaning that he was the only one that could feasibly nab all the full points for the VGH Final.
As you recall, it’d been Saya, C&T, and Eyes fighting at the top for most of the contest. It was going to be interesting.
With Cloud and Link winning their battles, Magus took full points and shot up to 2nd, sitting 450 points behind C&T. Saya, taking half credit for both battles, dropped a bit. As the Losers’ Match rolled around, I looked at the brackets and realized that only 5 people could get points, seeing as how most of you had Snake here to win against whoever he faced. Leon had beaten Wolverine there, and Magus was the only one to take full points. That knocked C&T off the top, and gave Magus an 11-battle win streak. Eyes and Sputin took 500 there, edging Eyes back up to 3rd.
Here is where it got very interesting. At this point, 12 people had a shot at nabbing points for the Championship, with 10 people able to get the full 2500, a record number. It got even more interesting when I noticed that C&T and Magus had the same character to win, both of them able to get full points. This meant that if Magus and C&T’s pick won, Magus would win it all. If he lost, then Eyes would come in and take the win (for her final winner was different than Magus/C&T), since at this point, Magus and C&T were in 1st and 2nd, and Eyes was sitting only 750 points out of 1st. Magus or Eyes would win it. C&T, with his 105 wins, would only place 2nd at best.

With a 22-12 victory, Link is the VGH Champion! Congratulations!
And now, the final leaderboard. Remember, as I mentioned at the very beginning of the contest, all points won will convert to gil (if you’re an FW member).
All the scores are out of 13800. I will also give you your final win-loss standing.
In 3rd place, with 8325 points, and winner of the 3rd place prize: Saya! With her 3rd place finish, Saya becomes the very first person to have ever finished a contest in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!
Finishing in 2nd, with 8700 points and winner of the 2nd place prize: Brie!
And now, the champion of the Video Game Heroes Character Battle Contest, with 9650 points: Eyes! She has won her 2nd contest! Congratulations!
To the winners: I have already notified you and told you your prize options. When you decide, let me know!

That’s it, everyone…look for info regarding the summer contest in the next month or two.
Thanks, everyone, for playing along. I want to thank every one of you who voted, entered, submitted fan art, fixed up the forum to accommodate my contest, everyone who did something. I do these because I love them, and so do you. If you didn’t win, try again next time…fun is the name of the game here.
Once again, thank you, Joshie (and Sarah) for allowing me to host yet another of these character battle contests. Thanks for putting up with me.
Thanks to Pollhost for providing me with free HTML polls to put in LJ, and to Photobucket for letting me clog up their servers with my contest pics.
Please—provide me with some feedback, be it constructive, positive, whatever. If you have an idea for a contest, let me know. As it stands, the summer contest will consist of Old School vs. New School…essentially pitting the consoles against each other. Also, I’ve begun working on an idea for a Tournament of Champions—after the 8th contest, I may do a tournament with the 8 characters who have won. I’ve done 6, so two more to go, life permitting.
Everyone—thank you so much. Most importantly, I hope you all had fun. We’ll definitely do this again.
See ya on the forum.
