Well, a week's gone, another week's coming, and then 9 days off for me. I win.

Let's catch you all up to speed here on the goings-on in the life o' me. A little over a week ago, I was in New Paltz for the college's 2nd annual NPC (New Paltz Gaming Convention), in which I got to see a nice large collection of nerds, geeks, and gamers. The convention itself covered all types of gaming--first floor area had a massive variety of board games, but the main focus was squarely on the second floor, in the MPR (really, a large open area called the "multi-purpose room"). That's where all the video gaming was going on--8 projectors of all gaming, all the time, and that's where I'd spent most of Saturday. Saw Ben again, that was fun, as he brought up a toy that I have to have--in the form of MLB Power Pros for Wii. There were several tournaments going on, and I partook of the Soul Calibur 3 tournament (came in 4th ONLY BECAUSE I GOT KNOCKED OUT OF THE DAMN RING), the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament (got wiped out immediately), and the Smash Bros. 64 tournament (came in 2nd). I took tons of pics that day, and if you were there, check them out here. The night wrapped up when Mary, James, Jess, April, and myself went to Oscar's (one of the things I miss most about campus) for some yummy food, and then it was back to Esopus for a bit. April, Mary and Jess looked at some naked men, and I was left marveling over the Ass Spoon that Jess had made.

Work filled the week, but this weekend gave me another chance to expand on my photo resume: my unit supervisor organizes and directs the annual 15K race that is run here in Schenectady, and having seen much of my work, he wanted me to be the freelance photographer to get pictures of the event. While he had hired a professional to get great shots of the beginning and end, he wanted shots of race action going on from different perspectives, different points along the way. So I was in Central Park (not of NYC fame), and managed to blow 7 rolls worth from different points in the park. This Wednesday will see the results of my work. My reward? I get reimbursed for film and developing expenditures, which means he owes me about $41, plus more if he decides he wants prints. It's also entirely possible that I could sell said pictures to the local paper that sponsors it, The Gazette, and also the the runners' club that hosts the race, Hudson Mohawk Road Runners' Club. I'm excited, because conditions were beautiful. Much of the foliage and beautiful fall colors were still on many trees, it was bright and sunny, there wasn't a cloud in the ceiling, and Central Park is a beautiful place to take pictures.

Last night, we went to April's parents' for dinner, and on the way home, had a long, meaningful discussion with my lovely, and now she's walking on cloud nine, so it seems.

And of course, NaNoWriMo. Currently, I've built up a 1-day buffer in terms of my word count, and I'm hoping to tack on an extra day. As I'll be on Cape Cod for Thanksgiving, I stand to lose 4 days of writing time, so I need to build up at least a buffer of 4 days before the day before Thanksgiving. My RE4 novelization is coming along nicely, and the reviews have once again started to come in, and while all good, it would seem that some people just can't understand the concept of what a game novelization actually is. In some cases, people are pointing out the tiniest minutia, things I tweaked or edited to make the story flow better, that wasn't present in the main game. Some think I should deviate completely from the main game. We've seen the results of that already in the form of the Resident Evil movies (THEY BLOW) and S.D. Perry's series of books (so, where did the game's plot go?). I keep having to reiterate that this is a NOVELIZATION OF THE GAME, not a strategy guide. There will be times that I take artistic license while only deviating from the main game where I see fit. Ah, purists.

But it's fan fiction, which means by default, not everyone's going to be pleased. It amuses me when someone tries to criticize me when the review itself looks like you took proper written English and threw it into a meat grinder. Such a deal.

And now, gonna get back to said writing...after a date with some homemade pancakes. Yummy.

And by the way? My birthday's in a week. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
