Chicken-seared salmon and other stories.

So, halfway through the week. Shortened by a day for me (as I was off on Memorial Day...yay paid State holidays), tomorrow will feel like Wednesday and so on until the weekend. Anyway.
Memorial Day weekend wasn't bad, we spent it here. Saturday, went out, bought a new edition of Monopoly (the Here and Now edition) and some toys--a wiffleball bat and ball, because I can enjoy the feeling of baseball in our own tiny patches of grass along the exterior of the complex without feeling like I'll break someone's window. April and I played some wiffleball, then some of the new Monopoly, and I won in a 3-hour game. Peter came over shortly after and spent a couple hours with us before we kicked him out so we could go to bed. Sunday, we went to April's parents, played some more wiffleball, and then the family and I went to one of the drive-in theaters around here to see the new Indiana Jones movie. I hadn't seen any of the others, so I wasn't up to date on the story. Didn't need to. I wasn't too thrilled about going in the first place--I was actually going to stay behind and play some video games, but upon realizing that I had forgotten them back in the apartment, I caved and went. Not a bad movie, but I'm not dying to see the other three. In fact, probably not going to. Now, we originally had gone to see the double feature of both Indiana Jones and Iron Man, but when Indiana Jones ended after 11 PM, we were pretty tired, and did not want to face the idea of going home around 2 AM.
Monday was a lazy day at April's parents', but we had our barbecue, and then Ryan and I went at it in Monopoly. To my dismay, after nearly 4 hours and still no winner, April had me call the game--she was tired and wanted to go home. Silly. I nearly beat him, too. He showed resilience--he managed to hold out for a long time, despite me owning nearly 3/4ths of the board, with houses and hotels all over the place. However, I was declared winner by virtue that I had nearly half the bank in my pile--over 100 million dollars (or, over $10,000 if this was regular Monopoly money).
So work is work, but for the first time in a while, I have another interview for a potential promotion. This interview will be tomorrow morning, and it will be my 6th attempt at a promotion since the last civil service tests I took. After 5 failed ones, I will give it my best, but I am not holding my breath or getting my hopes up. While I hope that this will be the one to get me out of the office and move into another area of the Lottery, I will not get my hopes up. For all I know, this could be another token interview. Regardless, wish me luck. :)
I go to Cape Cod in 9 days, heading over for my sister's high school graduation. In 7 days, my dad and his fiance will be flying in from Texas to crash with me, and I essentially play driver, transporting my dad, his fiance, and April to the Cape. Last I saw my family was last Thanksgiving, and I know Mom misses me. Much has happened in the last 6 months or so.
This Friday and Monday I have doctor's appointments--the one on Friday is the one I dread...it's a cholesterol check. I've already been nagged about it twice before, and even though I've been trying to knock it down, it may not be enough. I may end up on cholesterol meds, something I don't want to do, even if it's only temporary. The one on Monday is with my gastro, which is just a check-up with my Crohn's.
And I think that's about it, really. So now, I'll relax and eventually head to bed.
Nighty night, all.
