It's been an enjoyable past couple of weeks, all in all.

Two weeks ago, April and I vacationed in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, staying at Crawford Notch Campground in Hart's Location, NH--population, 42 (insert whatever Douglas Adams/Hitchhiker's Guide reference you see fit).

It was around 10 or so years ago that I was last here, and I'm certain I was able to appreciate it more this time around; the only person that was with me was my wife. For the first time in many months, it seemed, I was able to actually go somewhere with just April for an extended period of time, free from the stresses of life, but more specifically, the stress of just having a horrible 2010 so far--I won't go on a long-winded rant here, but those who've been following this journal, my Facebook, and Twitter know how, from a medical and health standpoint, this year has sucked. I've seen more doctors in the last 8 or so months than I've seen in the last few years, and I think things are finally beginning to look up.

My digestive system hasn't given me grief in a few months now, and the staph infection/abscess that sidelined my summer shows signs of healing, albeit very slowly.

I can't even begin to tell you just how wonderful the woman I married is, having to put up with all of my medical issues this year; from taking me to doctors, to changing my bandages, and overall, just helping me get back to normal.

With that, plus the stresses of work, school, and living with a roommate, it was nice to just leave everything behind for a week and enjoy nature. Before that, however, I went downstate for a few hours--I saw my family on their way to the Delaware River, but they made a stop in Bloomingburg, where my family and some of my mom's friends celebrated my mom's 50th (well, 50 and 7/12) birthday.

Once in New Hampshire, we managed to do quite a bit, but when we had a day of rain derail some plans, it meant I didn't get to do everything I'd hoped to do--driving up Mt. Washington will have to wait until next time. However, we did get to go to Clark's Trading Post, which made up somewhat us missing the Altamont Fair this year; we also went to the Old Man of the Mountain historic site, then New Hampshire State Museum in Concord, and then also Funspot (which is officially the largest arcade on the planet--4 floors, one of them comprising old, ancient arcade games. We're talking 20, 30-year old machines here people).

I did want to enjoy some of the woods while there, so went to the Flume gorge; a lovely, beautiful geological formation with nice waterfalls to boot; after, we did some fishing casting at Echo Lake, and played some mini golf. The following day, we did a short hike to Ripley Falls, probably some of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen, and then went to Lost River, another area containing geological formations and water, with caves you could enter.

On our way home, we went down to Bennington, VT, to eat at Madison Brewing Co., one of our favorite places to go, and finally came home.

Other than the one day of pouring rain, weather was lovely. It didn't get above 70 the entire week. Neither of us wanted to leave--no matter where we were, there was always a beautiful view on the road. It's a place we're definitely going to go back to.

Labor Day weekend saw all of us (April, Ryan, Danielle, Luc, myself, and all of New Paltz, it seemed) back at the New York Renaissance Faire, always a fun place to be. I don't know if I'll make it back again now that school's in session.

Now, life goes on, and it's back to the stresses of daily life. School's returned, as I've already mentioned, and I'll be sure to update my deviantART as the semester goes foward. I expect to definitely be putting up some of my best images from New Hampshire in the next few weeks.

Fall comes soon, and with it, apples. We all know what that means. PIE!
