I woke up half an hour ago, anxious to find out the election results, and sure enough, "Dubya" remains in the White House, a disappointment to many. Mr. Kerry decided to concede (read: give up) and I find myself a bit disappointed. As I looked at my friends LJ's all throughout last night until 5 AM, and this morning, there is an element of extreme disappointment, as I saw the emotions range from tense, anxious, depressed, drunk...and this morning, people are mostly pissed, with claims of moving to Canada. Some of my friends are very, very disappointed in Kerry for not fighting this to the full.

My question: how the bloody hell could the American people be so blind? I mean, Bush won the popular vote by roughly 3 and a half million, which sadly, was a clear win. I mean, for the last 4 years, I hardly heard anything good about Bush from anyone...then again, I live in the Northeast US, a quite liberal area. If you move into, as Sarah put it, "Yee-Haw land," then people love Bush. But my god, people--what the hell happened? Was it the issue of same-sex marriages, of will now be banned in 11 states (all of them in "Yee-Haw" land) by an overwhelming majority? Was it Bush's economic policy? The stances on the war? I now fear what Bush has in store for Alaska, and how he wants to pass legislation allowing for the drilling for oil in Alaska. And also I find myself looking at the perspective of college students who aren't well off and need money to go to college, whose dreams might not be realized, since Bush will continue plunging our money overseas.

Personally, I can see both the positive and negative logic for Kerry's concession. Yes, I can see the fact that no one wants another repeat of the last election, where it dragged out for several weeks before Gore threw in the towel. To count the remaining provisional ballots and military ballots left in the deciding state, Ohio, would take over a week.  Yet, by Kerry giving up, now his seat in the Senate is at risk...because he's giving up, now people aren't going to look favorably on Kerry...he has lost favor with the people.

Personally, if I was trailing by only 2 electoral votes, I'd fight this to the end. I mean, just think realistically for a second--all that money, all that time and energy spent by Kerry, all that campaigning, all the lost sleep, now ALL WASTED. I don't know about Kerry, but if I spent all those resources and lost the goal, I'd be demoralized. I would be crushed, and probably shoot myself.

Well, it's done, over with, and I predict that the population of the US will drop by 54 million people. (smirk)

NaNo word count: 3,075/50,000. I have to make up for lost time as a result of watching last night's coverage.

I've survived 4 years of Bush...looks like we need to survive 4 more. Even though I don't like it, the people have spoken--Bush won by 3 and a half million votes. We voted for him, again. Why? Don't know. This is how our democracy should be run, with the decision lying in the people, not the electoral system...and I was hoping to see the end of the Electoral College system after this election. Looks like it'll stay.

Oh, well. Life goes on. I do offer my congratulations to Bush...it was a long, hard-fought battle on both sides, but in the end, the people have spoken. What will the next 4 years bring? I sort of dread it.

And one final note: if you are a registered voter and did not vote, shame on you. If you are a registered voter and didn't vote, and you didn't want Bush to win, don't even say a word. I don't want to see anyone bitching in their LJ or otherwise about the outcome of the election if they didn't vote and could.

On that note, see ya later.
