Thursday, 27 April 2006 10:43So, the result.
After careful deliberation with Photo Rob, we had discovered that it would benefit me by coming in, should management decide to push back my Decision Day. I took a look at the next 3 shifts I had (today, tomorrow, Saturday) and realized that they were all very important shifts.
So, when I called back my department manager this morning, she told me that she had found another associate to come in earlier and change her shift so that she'd close. Which tells me one of two things, either: management said no on changing my Decision Day, which would've forced the Photo managers to very quickly find someone who could possibly cover; or two, they didn't expect me to call back. However, I don't think that would be it, because on every time they asked me to come in and call back telling them yes or no, I always have, and almost always come in. So, I'm very heavily leaning toward the fact that upper management didn't want to help out the lab by changing my D-Day and asking me to come in. Instead, they'll ask someone who normally doesn't have that availabilty, who gets paid less than I do to perform the same job.
It seems that Wal-Mart policy will be strictly adhered to on matters of SAVING money, not losing it.
If I had come in today, they would've (normally) had their closer. If not, the lab would be forced to close very early. Since they managed to ask someone to come in, despite the fact that she's normally not available to work before 6 PM, there goes that.
Tomorrow I come in to work, and there my fate will be decided--whether they fire me or let me finish out my 1 week that's left. I close the Connection Center. If I get fired, then Connection Center has no closer, which means the department will be forced to close at least 2 hours early, losing 2 hours of business, which will piss Robin (department manager of Connection Center) off.
Saturday, I open the Photo Lab. This is probably the most important of these 3 shifts. If I'm fired on Friday, this means that either Photo will be closed all day, or one of my bosses will have to come in on his/her day off and open. Of the associates (excluding management) left in Photo, only 2 of us know how to open--Rob and myself. Rob has that day off, requested, because he has a photo event that day. I'm the only one left that knows how to open (and is scheduled for it), then. One associate is not available to work on Saturdays, and the other three don't have that early availabilty and don't know how to open anyway.
I look at it like this: if I'm fired, all it does is fuck the Photo and Connection Center managers right over, because I have closing/opening shifts. If they want to get rid of me, so be it. They'll screw themselves over by losing business.
Yet, at the same time, Wal-Mart will save money by not paying me anymore, which is the ultimate goal.
So, I enjoy my paid day off today. I wrote my D-Day letter on Tuesday, so I've got the whole day to loaf and get paid for it.
And now, food.
