Wait. Strike that. Reverse it. Thank you.

Where have the last few weeks gone? It seems like it's been fast in some places, slow in others.

The last few weekends have been seen me out of town for the most part--it's been a few weeks since I had a free weekend, although it looks like I'm going to get one this weekend. Good thing too, because most of the weekends from now until the end of September are pretty much taken up--between RenFaire, Tanglewood, the wedding of Mary & James, and a possible trip to Cape Cod.

I went to opening weekend of the New York Renaissance Faire last weekend, and despite the heat and humidity (and some garb-soaking rain), I had a blast. It's like one giant reunion, seeing friends and vendors who now know us on sight. We go back for Labor Day weekend...3 days of Faire!

I had an interview for a promotion last week at the Lottery. The position was for a Lottery Drawing Assistant--a position that would've come with many, many duties, including possibly supervising some minions. Because that's what I'm missing! Minions! The position would've required a split-shift day--go in for a couple hours in the late morning for the Lottery's mid-day drawings, and then for 6 or so hours at night for the evening drawings. It would've required me to give up some weekends and holidays, but for $22.50 an hour, it would've been a nice tradeoff. However, I didn't get it--it was given to someone already in the drawings unit. While I wasn't so bummed that I didn't get the position, I did feel angry that I was once again the victim of a false interview.

You see, Civil Service, in times of old, was known for its rampant nepotism. So, they put red tape in place to try to prevent that. Any time there is a job opening, the potential employer must hire from within if possible. So, despite already knowing who he or she is going to promote, they have to undergo a useless process of interviewing all interested candidates just to cover their own asses. What this means is that, unless you're in the specific unit and/or agency, your chances of getting that promotion are nearly 0. And while I don't have too much issue working for the Lottery, it's unfortunately one of those agencies that has almost no turnover. It's such a small State agency that no one moves. So I keep trying, it's all I can do.

On the medical front, I do continue to slowly heal. The surgical wound keep healing day by day. It's less than an inch deep now, and I can't wait for the day when it finally closes for good. I swear, I'm gonna have a party when it does. For now, though, I just keep going. Baby steps. And with April doing all she can to keep the recovery going, I know that eventually, I'll pull through, this will all be over, and I can get fully back to the business of fully enjoying life, photography, and getting back to being a proper husband. I have so much sex to make up...

But for now, I continue to take it easy. Character Battle 13 has just ended, so I'll gain some time in the evenings again. I can get back to some of the video games I need to plow through. I need to finish some before I can justify buying more. Luckily, some of the ones I want don't come out for a while yet.

Coming up in the near future is a Danielle ([livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl), who will be staying with us for a week while her family move back to Massachusetts. We'll be taking her back to school when the week's up, and it'll prevent her parents from having to do several long drives in a very short time period. I like being the halfway point. Film Night at Tanglewood is also coming up, in which said Danielle, along with April, Ryan, Sara C., and I will head over to see John Williams & the Boston Pops, along with God (Morgan Freeman) narrating the proceedings. So looking forward to that.

But today, we take other Danielle ([livejournal.com profile] kilinka) out to Red Lobster, since it's her birthday. NOM NOM NOM. Before that, however, maybe I can get some more accomplished in Final Fantasy 13.
